We sure have the camping bug now we went and visted McCormicks creek this weekend and got our season state park pass. I am so ready and the boys can't wait they got new scooters for there birthday they got to try out on the hills at the camp ground this weekend.

Just need to touch up the paint and fix my hatch lifts and we'll be ready

I forgot to crack a window, but didn't have any problem. Fortunately. The heater I have isn't digitally controlled, but it works the same way.

I've got the big again too....this was a great weekend

I also experimented with Swedish candles...a commercially cut variety. Worked well. But it was pitch filled. Icky black smoke....building a hardwood teepee resolved that problem. I got a HOT coal bed with just a few seconds if work. Ill bring them to the gathering :)

I made it out this weekend. AWESOME! Let the season begin! 32 degrees on Thursday night was a little rough. Midnight call was brutal! However with just body heat and good blankets I was warm, even if the cabin temp was 45....

I did then cheet with a space heater (under desk electric type) that got me up to 75 easily....then I was too warm. Need a better thermostat.

Happy! Happy! Looking forward to gathering, I just hope we break out of the wet cold cycle we seem to be stuck in :(

Was it a Big Green Egg you bought? I have a large and it does have a bit of a learning curve but once you get it you can't beat it for long slow cooks. The large is too heavy to take camping and I have considered a small, but they are expensive.

No, I have a large BGE for home....but there's no way to safely transport that beast...I bought a metal knock off....definitely not a BGE, but I think it will do once I lean how to set it up...you're right. Not much can beat them....pizza oven, smoker, grill....it does it all.

But what I have is small...around 15 inch diameter and short enough to fit in my jeep cargo area.

I did a butt Saturday. Suffered from thermal runaway....got up to 300 overnight....so I was done at 3am instead of the lunch I had planned. But even though it got WAY too hot, the meat was still edible. Even after being warmed up again. I'm going to try a dry run (no meat) and try to keep the heat low and slow before I try again. But I need a good brisket...

Vira, I apologize in advance :). I do share...

I'll have to check out what you have. I have a Digi-Q that nails the temp in the BGE. I wonder if it would work with what you bought?

I will fall back to my old stand by meatloaf.

It is always well received and never seem to have leftovers.

May make a loaf or two of hot bread time permitting,

I don't think we could possibly eat a whole patrol box in one setting no matter how big the group.
