Say Kankakee State Park?

Anyone interested? We're hoping between the TD build and the wedding we'll be ready to go by mid-September.

September 7-9 is the Popeye Picnic in Chester IL. I went last year to a great county park down that way. I plan on doing it again this year. The event is just a small town celebration w/ a parade and carnival. Chester is south of St Louis along the Mississppi River.

I might however be interested in an end of Sept camp out.

A Popeye Picnic? Hmmm, could be interesting.

We'll keep you up on the dates as they draw nearer. Our wedding is the 15th of September.

We're hoping to have the TD done by mid-August. But we'll be involved in a big project at work during that time frame so any real camping would be out during that time.

Bumping this up for new Illinois members.

Please chime in with your towns so we can pin them on a map. Once I've got a map it'll visually give us ideas for places to get together. 8)

Why don't you guys save the days off and go to the Louisiana Gathering (LCGII) at the end of October? The weather is still pretty nice.

October is one our busy seasons. We get swamped at the beginning and end of the calendar and fiscal budget year.

Jeff,
I spent the weekend with Bodyman( Randy) and we talked about this. I will have to see if it works into my calendar. It would be a good time if I could get a few day for the travel.

SaGR,
Have you ever been to Shabbona Lake SP. That might be a good place to get together if you want to set a date to motivate yourself to finish your build. It is close to Naperville.

We could PM some of the folks from the forum who live in N IL, E IN and S WI who might be interested in an simple gathering.

I fish there (Shabbona) a couple times a year! :D

That is another good choice too as it's a decent park!

Call the date friend and we will set a thread up for the Shabbona Lake Gathering. If you and I commit to going its a gathering. I am sure we can get others interested with a committed date and place.

We used to take the kids and camp at Shabbona when we lived in the Aurora/Naperville area. Nice place!

Depending on the dates, maybe we can get away and come for the weekend...

OK, so what about the following dates:

Sept. 28-30 with the following weekend (Oct. 5-7) as the alternate rain date.

-or-

Oct. 5-7 with the following weekend (Oct. 12-14) as the alternate rain date.

We should pick a date and all try to register/reserve NLT Aug. 17th. If we can get a headcount ahead of time I can probably just reserve a block of sites.

I would say the weekend is just hangout time to meet, visit and swap stories. Nothing heavily scripted or scheduled. Maybe a pot luck on Saturday evening or Sunday lunch?

White Elephant gift giving (TD related junk) ? Our clique of friends will do this every now and then and it can be pretty funny. If you don't know what it is see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_elep ... t_exchange

Thoughts?

I can committ to Sept 28-30. I have drove through Shabbona Lake SP but have never camped there so this will be a good opportunity.

I am with you SaGr (what's you first name?) about keeping it simple. A Saturday night potluck typically works better than Sunday as some may have to head out in the am on Sunday.

I have never participated in a white elephant but it sounds fun and if it is made part of the gathering (which means you organize it) I won't be able to say that come October.

If we can find someone creative to design a logo I can try to get some buttons made up.

SaGR as chairman of this gathering you have to start a new thread and I as chief encourager will send some PMs to folks, and hopefully Betsey and Craig can work the dates into their schedule.
