BROWN COUNTY BLOWOUT

We are approaching the 30 day window to our premier gathering. I have noticed most chapters try and pre plan the pot luck night menu to eliminate duplications and to help vary the menu. As I understand we are having ours on Saturday 5/17/08.
Vickie and I have been working today on our menus for the 6 meals we intend to have during the gathering. In that planning is the Saturday night potluck donation.
We intend to do a whole pork loin in the dutch oven tenderized with diced tomatoes and a few banana peppers for a subtle flavor as a main meat dish. She will be bringing 2 cheese cakes ( flavors to be determined) Maybe we can vote on them if she agrees. ( there only about 20). Perhaps late Friday night by a main campfire , the deep fry fest. For those not brave enough for deep fried pickles ,peppers , or what ever Vickie is planning popcorn balls for the kids (young or old). Did I mention we used to own a restaurant and love to cook. How do you think I got to be 310 Lbs. Perhaps we sould divide into Main course , meats and casseroles. sides , veggies ect and desserts. I just thought it was time to start the ball rolling and let you know our thoughts and plans. Chime in and let the directors know what ya think. Bob & Vickie

You must be Kreskin! The wife just asked me as I was firing up the computer what the menu is the the pitch-in. She is also considering a pork loin, maybe pre-cook it in the crock pot (she's not much of a DO chef) :picnic: :Flippin Burger:

 If it's anything like past Saturday night potluck dinners we'll wind up with enough food to feed an army. I'm thinking of Jambalaya and cobbler

Friday nights dinner is whatever I can cook in the fire  and of coarse something deepfried, I've yet to decide what I want to deepfry.

Went to dinner Thursday night to visit my sister and her new boyfriend and HE fixed dinner. As an appetizer he fixed deep fried fresh green beans , they were great. Battered deep fried and lightly sprinkled with seasoned salt. Never before in my lifetime but there is a lot of things yet to be discovered I guess.

I'm bringing a Brisket cooked in the DO. Also some sour cream/Garlic smashed potatoes.

I think I'll make some "Jalapeo Poppers" for the fun of it.

Uh Oh! I'm getting hungry again!!

Scott's right. The last big pot luck (at Turkey Run) was really good. No body went to bed hungry that night.

Scott, normally I slit them open and take out the seeds. Then cut them into strips (depending on the hottness). I take a strip of (thin) tortilla shell cut into 1"-2" wide strips.

Lay the pepper in the tortilla and put cream cheese and mozzerella inside and wrap it up. I use a tooth pick to hold it for cooking.
I usually deep fry them in about 1/4" of oil in the DO. When they golden brown, take them out and add salt.

If people don't like hot peppers, I substitute a celery stick. Either way they're pretty tasty.
