We have our site and dates!

The gathering will be July 11-12 at Shady Bend Campground near Augusta, Mi

Here is their website: http://www.shadybendcampground.com/

The campground is on a bend in the Kalamazoo River with 2 ponds in the middle so every site is either on the river or on a pond. The campground is almost completely wooded with tall trees. all the sites are grass and relatively level. Picnic tables sit on concrete slabs.

Pets are welcome.

There are lots of things to do there. They have canoes and tubes for the river. The Gilmore Car Museum is a short drive away as is the Fort Custer State Recreation Area for hiking, biking and fishing.

The Barn Theater is down the road, performing West Side Story.

The fee is $28 per night with a 1 night deposit required to reserve your spot. You can make the reservation by calling 269-731-4503 or emailing them at [email protected]. Deposits are fully refundable with a 7 day notice.. They don't take credit cards so you'll have to send a check or money order, but they will hold the reservation for 10 days until the check gets there.

They will hold our block of sites until June 20. Please make your reservations prior to that date to assure a spot.

Here are some photos we took of the campground -

We'll follow the usual format of meet and greet on Friday and potluck on Saturday night.

Please let us know when you make your reservation so we can keep a count of how many are coming.

Looking forward to seeing you there. :D

Jeff,
I'm waiting for Rocky to get home. She called to hold the sites.

Dan,
Good question. Last year we had 8 or 9. This year may be more. I just don't know since we only announced it yesterday. If you come, we're already up to 4 so it looks like we might have a good turn out.

I still have an estimated 8 weekends to go before my trailer is ready, so unfortunately I probably won't make this weekend.

Hey Mike,

Have you ever stayed at the Algonac State Park that sits about 20 miles south of Port Huron on the Saint Clair river?
I think I am going to give that one a try this summer for sure.

Nope, never been to Algonac.

Going north from here I've hit Tawas, Oscoda, Harrisville, Tahquamenon, and Pictured Rocks.

For the short drive, I liked Harrisville the best, and Oscoda the second best.

For the long drive, both Tahquamenon and Pictured Rocks are excellent.

Rocky and I went to the campground yesterday. The campground was full and people were canoeing and tubing down the river.

I have a correction to make on our reserved sites. We have 5 thru 8 and 49 thru 54. Rocky and I have 49.

The campground has a pavilion ( shelter w/picnic tables ) that we also have reserved for our pot luck.
