I know its about the end of camping season and I totally missed the Illinois gathering, but is there one within 3-4 hours of St. Louis, MO?

I would be tent camping because I dont have a tear yet. Just wondering if I should go out and buy a tent or if its too late to camp.

Thanks

Amy,

It might be a little far for you but Gary and I will be in Springfield on Labor Day.

I'll have the Giant Teardrop, and Gary will have the Winter Warrior.

P.S. Miriam, are you going to swing by to check out the Giant Teardrop, and take another picture of your toe?

There is a Terjerkers Land of Lincoln Chapter & St. Croix Chapter gathering at Starved Rock State Park the weekend of August 21-23. I have heard the park is full, however, each site allows a tent with a camper, so you may be able to double up with one the other teardroppers...there are several attending. We had reservations to attend but turns out our annual family reunion is the same weekend.

Here's a link to the info: http://tearjerkers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1529

There is also Tears by the River 2, September 11-13, at Thomson Causeway on the Mississippi. There are about 15 or so of us going. The park is pretty full but it does show that tent sites are available in the loop we are camping.

Here's a link to Tears by the River 2:

Camping "Season"

Someone mentioned too late to camp. I never go out on the "Holiday" weekends because every place to camp is filled Fire ring to fire ring. Some of the best camping trips I have been on are after Labor day when the regulars think it is time to quit. Fall color camping and canoeing are great times!! I have camped in November and actually depending of where you live, The long Thanksgiving weekend can be a great weekend if you like peace and quiet, While everyone is out fighting the christmas shopping crowds, you can be enjoying the campfire and falling leaves, you just have to carry your own water since most places shut off their water for the winter, if the weather forcast is good pack up and go!!! I would not recommend this as one of your first camping trips, I grew up camping and have camped with the Boy Scouts, That is were I learned that camping season does not end by the calender. Also State Parks used to cost half of what is costs to use a private camp ground, not any more, They are about the same here in Illinois. Not counting Yogi, KOA's which are outragous with their prices. Sorry to ramble on, Nuff Said, Happy Campin where ever and when ever you can go!!!!!

Like Trudy said, we will be at the KOA in Springfield.

The trip is actually to visit Chell's parents in Springfield, so we'll be gone during the day... but we'll be in camp early in the morning, and all evening long.

We'd love to meet you Seth. Come on out. Heck, if you time it right, you'll even get a piece of D.O. birthday cake!

Anyone one else going to join us? We'll be in the campground Sunday thru Wednesday.

I'll also have some Mike's hard lemonade, some sweet wine... (I think that would be Sangria???), and some Holland Beer... probably Heineken Light.

Trudy, what is that sweet wine you drink?

Mike...
