If anyone is headed that way keep my spot warm. I had some camper frame issues and have had to put a new tongue on it. I'll hopefully make it there tomorrow, Saturday.

The Wisconsinites thank everyone for the warm welcome!

 You're probably still enjoying the last of the pitch-in and games this evening. Sorry we missed all that! After having been on the road for 8 days we needed to get back and regroup, so had to pull out this a.m.

It was so nice to meet you all, and we sincerely hope our paths cross yours again! Great job of organizing and orienting, Kurt and Scott!

After 4 threatening e mails   I figured I had better post the "Apple Pie" recipe.

Went into the 08 Shivaree thread and found Kurt's version of the "Apple Pie" recipe

This is the base recipe I started with....

Here's the recipe:

2 qt Apple Cider (I use the kind that you purchase from the grocery shelf, instead of the produce section...the other makes the Apple Pie cloudy, although it tastes the same.)
4 qt Apple Juice
2 c. granulated sugar
4 - 8 cinnamon sticks (I like a lot)
Combine above ingredients, bring to boil. After reaching a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from heat and cool till at least lukewarm (so you don't burn the alcohol off!). Add 2 cups Everclear (I go more toward 2 1/4 or so, but more than that and you'll taste the alcohol instead of the apples). Remove cinnamon sticks before bottling. Oh, and I always double the recipe because it tastes so good!

I experimented with this a bit ....

I made a double batch ( 3 Gallon) A few things I did different was to substitute brown sugar for 1/2 of the white sugar and think it add a lot.

I added 1/4 teaspoon of ginger , nutmeg , and clove.

Be careful with the clove it is potent,

Unlike Kurt's recipe I left the cinnamon sticks in the mix and let it mellow in the back of the fridge. If you are going to serve it almost immediately use 2 heaping tablespoons of powdered cinnamon in the mix instead of the sticks. Let it mellow in the jugs it came in and later decant it off into canning jars or other serving vessels as there will be some sediment in the bottom. While quite flavorful it has a rather unappetizing appearance.

I have not yet rounded up my photos but they are coming. Karl talked about his upcoming gathering in Michigan duiring the pot luck and I thought I would share a video that better explains the insanity! I had a great time this past weekend and would like to thank everyone for making it the best yet...

The Deepest spot in Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes is 1,333 feet or about 222 fathoms. This profound depth could easily contain the entire 1,250' Empire State Building, even with a 50-foot-tall King Kong perched atop.
