"It's official"

Tearjerkers Fall Gathering 2010

Camping at Prophetstown State Park (sites 201-259) "Savanah Loop"
Sept 23-26, 2010
Battle Ground, IN
47920
765-567-4919

It's a nice park with good clean/level (gravel) sites. You'll like it. There really isn't a "bad" site in the loop. There isn't much (any) shade since the trees are young but late September might be cooler. The shower house is the best designed that I've seen at a state park. Water supply every three sites.

Check out the activities on the DNR site.

The Deepest spot in Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes is 1,333 feet or about 222 fathoms. This profound depth could easily contain the entire 1,250' Empire State Building, even with a 50-foot-tall King Kong perched atop.

I went too .... Unfortunatly I am not allowed to carry ol what's her names "granny gun". (The camera she is always shooting the grand kids with)

So I guess I was to blame also ! Since we now have the thread set I will sneak over and get some pics to post.

The sites are all of 50 foot deep and 30 foot wide at the rear. They are kinda shaped like the letter "P" a back in lane and the rounded portion of the "p" is a large area for the picnic table and the fire ring. The entire area is fine gravel ringed with timbers. The comfort stations are the nicest we have seen and even the vault toilets are all fiberglass lined with concrete floors and are sweet smellin and clean clean clean. We spoke with the camp host and the rest rooms are on a 6 hour cleaning and refilling schedule. The hosts are volunteers that live on site 2-3 weeks at a time. ( What a Gig Huh?)

It's sad we were not able to coordinate this gathering with the feast of the hunters moon but the park was damn near booked up already for that weekend. Lot of the reinacters camp and stay at the park for the feast that is about 15 minutes away.

There are several new board members in Illinois and we would sure like to see them make it over the state line to camp with us or just a saturday drive over and a day visit.

So get signed up and come enjoy the fun !

Here is the link to the prophets town site

http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2971.htm

The little tent on the left will take you directly to the Indiana DNR reservation site !

In the center box if you click on the electric sites you will get a map of the 110 camping sites. The grey tone sites are electric , water and a private sewage drop and are more expensive. The white sites are electric only and water is a commom hydrant spaced every 3rd site.

Should a few of you wish to have full hook up let Kurt or Scott know we may want to shift the festivities a bit west of the comfort station instead of centering around it.

I am sure Scott will be along to post the map for all to see.

Ask and you shall receive. When booking I noticed you can't find the campground by searching state sections you have to look it up by name.

I have another announcement:

The movie for the gathering could be one of the adventures of "Ma & Pa Kettle". There are two of these videos in this collection (donated by Bob Henry) so we might have one at Whitewater to see how it goes.
They are funny and "earthy" as I remember from my childhood viewing.

We are here to have fun , eat and enjoy a simple, uncomplicated movie. The "Ma & Pa" movies should be easy to watch. (no thinking involved).

I loved being near the potty at Chain O Lakes last summer got to here the door slam all night long. I hate being a light sleeper :x

I am moving to the suburbs just wish there were more trees.

It is a nice park though and the Battleground memorial park and museum is just 2 miles down the road. Nice attraction and big trees and trails for the hiking crowd. It is a great history lesson for young and old. I lived within walking distance for several years.

Reservations

3 confirmed and a lot of red on there has anyone booked and is to shy to come forward
Image Don't wait to long they'll all book up and you'll miss out on a fun time.

I think you have to look up the site by name rather than section of the state, when I pushed that I didn't see it listed.

I am almost certain that that is correct there is NO camp store.

You are in sight of the burg of Battleground
which has a small grocery store and a package store.

Heck you are only 2 mile from a McDonalds and
a Burger King at the intersection of I 65 and S.R. 43

Should I call the grocery store and have them stock
heavy on "POP TARTS" :laughter:
