Hoosier Chapter "Spring" gathering 2011

Postby Kurt (Indiana) » Tue Sep 21, 2010 7:09 pm

It won't be long, since the first day of autumn is tomorrow, that we will be looking forward to the first day of spring.

Spring means "camping". Any suggestions for our Spring Gathering?

Keep in mind that our Spring gatherings have traditionally been held in the South Western section of Indiana.

Doesn't mean it has to be in that area but it seems to have been a good choice in the past.

I'd have to second Dans vote Versailles has a real nice seciton with about 45 spots in a circle that would give us our own private area that we could dill up with no problem.

I was gonna go down a weekend after next or so and check it out in person.

Scott, I have to agree with you as well as Bob's comment. Section "C" looks like a good spot for groups (if we can all get reservations in early enough).

Look at the surrounding area too for the "overflow crowd" if we need it.

The park is about 2 hours east from Raccoon lake but much closer to Ohio which could bring in more of the Buckeye Chapter.

Bob's comment from tearjerkers........ :D

McCormick S.P. would make a much better summer gathering those sights are so shady they have to pipe in sunlight

This weekend we can talk with Dan Galvin since he knows the park better than I do. I'd love to get a look at it fairly soon.

I think it would make a great "Multi-State" site for Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, Illinois (and more)

Well it's kinda quiet... everyone out fluffing and buffing before the big gathering.

Vic and I have been going over the packing list and the shopping list since dusk.

Earlier we swept out and changed out all the bedding for fresh sheets and comforters. Packing up everyones goodies ( Barb & Dave I have your Goodwill care package ready ) Gotta put in a full day tomorrow but will see everyone early Friday AM.

While trying to find the butane canisters for my new little butane stove I found 5 more Dutch oven lid lifters. Holler if you want one. I will bring a couple extras just in case.

Were getting real close. I have an "almost" guarantee that the Journal and Courier reporter , Bob Scott , will be bringing his wife and wandering thru to see all those trailers in person that we all sent him pics of. I bet he is thinking of his next big article for the paper :shhh:

Should be buffing and fluffing I've got plenty to do but by the end of my work days my energy is pretty much zapped these days. I think it the new drugs I'm on :?

But I'll be there for sure, I'm so ready for a weekend of camping. :campfire:

We'll (Jim & I) will be on the road at 9:00am Saturday morning.

We should be at Versailles State Park around Noon.

This time I'm taking my camera and hopefully get lots of good pictures.

Once we "zero in" on the exact gathering location, we can wait for the reservation system to open up for the May reservations.

Hope to see some of you at the park.

The girls and myself are going to make the trip to check it out. That should stretch the legs on the 64.

The girls and myself had a good time checking out Versailes today. The 64 performed well for an old truck all but developing a gear oil leak at the pinion seal on the way back. I guess 2 hours nonstop each way was a little too much for a 46 year old seal. I,ve already replaced a lot of those rubber parts but have a few left to do.

I missed Kurt and Jim somehow. I arrived about 40 minutes late due to getting caught in the gridlock on 135 due to the Fort Vallonia days near Brownstown. The park was nice and the girls enjoyed riding their bikes and playing on the playground. I think I know which site I want depending on where the gathering developes.
