Has anybody been to Harbortown Resort in Monroe, MI? We may go there this summer, and were wondering what peoples thoughts were about the campground and the area. Is there a lot to do in this region?

Thanks,

Dave

VERY EXPENSIVE. No Shade for pets or humans. $42 a night for 20 amp service.

Our whole dog club passed for this coming weekend and will stay are Lord Willing instead a few miles away.

Just got back from a week there. Thought I would update all yalls. Your right. No shade trees to amount to anything. We arrived on Saturday, July 2nd. The temperature was 97 F and the heat index was 107. We were pretty much dying in the heat until we got some canopys up.

The rest of the week the temperatures in the low to mid 80's which wasn't bad. Had a bad storm the first night (after the heat) that mangled our canopies (were able to salvage and repair them).

The campground wasn't too bad. It was clean, and the management was nice. Had activities to do on the weekends. I won $15 at bingo.

The biggest drawback wasn't the campground, but the area it was in. There was hardly anything to do. It was close to lake erie but they charged $8 a day to get into the state park. We also drove to Luna Pier which was on the lake. They charged $0.50 per hour to park there. The city of Luna Pier had a lighthouse on their website, but there is no lighthouse in the area.

The shopping mall was really small, so we took a day trip to Cabela's and Camping World that were 30 minutes away. Got to camping world and the electric was out. Had to shop in the dark. I got a good deal on a "camp" rocking chair for $29. They had them at Cabela's for $50.

Took a day drive to Frankenmuth which was two hours away. Beautiful town, should have stayed near there. They have the largest xmas store in the US. They have a glockenspiel, and a german villiage that boasts a clock shop (I bought at cookoo clock). Ate at Zehnders, which was wonderful.

My brother and his wife went into Detroit to go to the Greek town casino. They really liked it.

Spent the last day at the Toledo Zoo. It was pretty nice. Wanted to go to Hell, MI to go to Screamers Ice Cream Parlor which is rated number 3 in the US by the travel channel. Didn't get to make it there.

Probably wouldn't go back as there is not much to do in the area.

Oh, I did forget to mention that the campground is surrounded by 3 sets of railroad tracks. The 6:15 am train horn is so loud that you get blasted out of bed thinking the train is coming right through the trailer.

dmckruit, try Metamora/Hadley State Park Camp Ground. Its in Metamora right off M24 or Lapeer Rd North of Oxford. You are less than 10 mins from I-69 which will be 1/2 hour to Frankenmuth, Sarina Ont Canada for gambling, Fishing on Lake Huron or use one of the many beach front parks that are free. I live very close to that camp ground and there is plenty to do within a 1/2 hours time north , south, east or west.

Also they have a lake right there you can camp right at plus a swimming beach, boat/canoe rental also the old part is rustic and out of the way and not crowded hardly ever if you dont want neighbors. Clean showers too. I can also tell you how to find the best fishing pond in this county and its right there and hidden LOL Ive caught many huge panfish in that pond. Let me know if you take your family up and I'll show you around the area
