Hey all, not to sway the conversation off this year's (well, "next" year's!) Shiveree, but this was posted on the Indiana State Parks Facebook page. It's a listing of which parks keep their comfort stations open in the winter:

Want to start the new year off right by camping? Five of our properties still have a comfort station open in their modern campgrounds (Indiana Dunes, Clifty Falls, Pokagon, Patoka and Brown County). Primitive camping is available in many other places. Visit www.camp.in.gov for campsite details.

Well, Brown County seems ok.

While I love Brown County State Park, this particial weekend in January may not be a good idea. I've copied & pasted the following article from the local newspaper about the "Annual Winter Hike" on Jan 14th. Hey, with a Zip Line on the agenda, there might not be enough room for camping

"You don’t have to wait for next year’s
warmer weather to get a good workout while
enjoying scenery.
The annual Winter Hike at Brown County
State Park will be Jan. 14.
The park is outside Nashville with entrances
off State Road 46 and State Road 135.
Hikers can choose from one of the two selfguided
trails.
You won’t go hungry as you go. Along the
way, Boy Scouts will prepare s’mores for all
the hikers.
For runners, the Frosty Trails 5-mile run is
a challenging course on the horse trails in
the park.
Winter Wellness Weekend takes place at
Abe Martin Lodge on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend includes a wide variety of
activities to get you moving and reflecting.
Cost for both days is $20.
For those seeking more adventure after the
hike, take a trip to Explore Brown County at
Valley Branch Retreat for Zip and Sip, where
you can try local beer and wine and zip
through the air on Indiana’s longest, tallest
and fastest zip lines.
Outdoor equipment and bike demos will be
available at the park’s recreational hall.
Events, times and cost:
• Winter Hike: 9 a.m., $1 per hiker; Brown
County State Park, starting points at the
nature center and the recreational hall; (812)
988-7303
• Southern Loop Hike (3.5 miles):
Beginning at the nature center, hikers
begin on a closed park road past Hohen
Point, into Strahl Valley then around Lake
Strahl. Return to the nature center via
Trail No. 6.
• Woodland Hike (2.75 miles): Beginning at
the park’s recreation building and proceeding
through Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve
(Trail No. 5), around Lake Ogle (Trail No.
7), and returning to the recreation building.
• Winter Wellness Weekend: Classes all
weekend; $20 for two days of activities; Abe
Martin Lodge; www.riverlightyoga.com;
(812) 988-9642
• Breakfast with the Naturalists: 7 a.m.,
cost is price of menu items; Little Gem
Restaurant at Abe Martin Lodge; www.in.
gov/dnr/parklake/inns/abe/; (812) 988-4418
• Frosty Trails 5-Mile: 10:30 a.m.; $20 to
$25; Brown County State Park; headquarters
at the lower shelter; www.signmeup.
com/79012; (812) 822-0327
• Hiker’s Lunch Buffet, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,

I don't think the hikers will take up camping space in Browncounty only add a bunch of people stopping by to see the crazy little campers out in the winter time. On the other hand Turkey Run with the volt toilets would be Ok we've never had modern bathrooms in all the years past an it's worked out fine.

After a quick re-read of that press release.....it seems they encourage me to "try some local beer and wine, THEN try the zip line". This really seems like my kind of place!!

We made it official on Dec 10th...Turkey Run State Park. Obviously barring weather issues. Bob's already been scouting also. Sat January 14, or the Friday 13th and 14th for anyone wanting 2 nights.

 Bad weather usually holds out until after that weekend any way.

Did we pick an area so the first person there would know what sites to go to?
