Cooler Near the Lake VI Potluck lists

Postby tearhead » Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:10 pm

Hi--I may be getting this going a little early, but thought we could start thinking about what to bring to the CNTL events.

Sounds like these will all be in the shelter near our campsites. Plan on bringing your own glass, plate, etc. as well as any serving utensils needed for your dish.

First event: Friday night wine/other beverage/snackathon. :wine: I don't know that we need to be all that organized about this but bring either a snack or a beverage. If you want to let the group know what you're bringing, that's fine, but not necessary in particular. Since I think I've already been asked to bring Apple Pie, I'll do that and put it in the coffeemaker. Then we can use the coffeemaker on Sat. a.m., too.

-- Doug and Nan are bringing smoked salmon spread and crackers.

Second Event: Saturday breakfast. Just bring one item. Here is what people brought last year:

Waffles/Pancakes
Toppings--Fruit Toppings, Syrup, Whipped Cream
Scrambled eggs--Doug & Nan
Biscuits and gravy--Tom
Bacon - Gary and Cheri
Fried potatoes -Steve
Fruit-
Sausage links -(I'll bring those)
Condiments
Creamer -
Sugar -
Several salt & peppers -
Breakfast Breads
Bagels & Cream Cheese -
Coffeecake
Coffeemaker & coffee (I'll bring the coffeemaker)
Variety of Juices - Mike

Saturday Night Potluck :Flippin Burger:

Appetizers--
Main Dishes--BBQ Meatballs (Doug & Nan); Mexican Lasagna (Pat & Mark); Pork Roast (Steve)
Side Dishes--Loaded Mashed Potatoes (Tom)
Salads --Macaroni Salad (Mike)
Breads--Artisan Bread (Gary & Cheri)
Desserts--Pie iron fixin's or other dessert (Steve)

I'll try to collate everything as we go.

Cheri and I will provide and make the bacon for the breakfast. For the meal we have been experimenting with a book on artisan breads and we will see what yummy thing we can whip up. I'm getting hungry already and it's way too long before camping starts.

Thanks for starting the food thread Pat. Your effort is appreciated.

Artisan Bread....hmmm......

I got a book called Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day by hertzberg and fancois for xmas a year ago...have read it
but yet to try it...any chance you have the same book? Let me know what you make, I like to know how it turns out,
how hard it was to do and keep going. Thinking working vs retired as to this aspect.

Tina,

That is the same book I have and we just love the basic recipe. Just like the bread Mom made when I was young. If you have a kitchenaide mixer like we use it is easy and quickly made. Only problem is I'm on a diet and bread is really bad for a diet so I have been avoiding it. Great book with tons of recipes which I will not have enough time to make and eat in my lifetime.

If you or anyone else wants to try some we have room, just register here;

Bob, I think "left over" and "apple pie" is an oxymoron! :shhh:

OK Pat, I have been slacking here. On Saturday I will make a Seasoned Pork Roast and maybe some sort of dessert. I see we have none of those yet. Since we have the big fire in the shelter going would anyone want to do pie iron desserts. I have several pie irons to share. If there is some interest I bring the irons and a few pie choices.

Sounds great, Steve! I'm partial to the pie iron idea--have never tried that. I'll fill in with something else, too, if we're short--like a salad or additional dessert. It seems like we do get last-minute random additions. I'd say right now we're short on juice and such for breakfast and salads and desserts for Saturday supper.

For those who are thinking what to bring--if you are planning a specific thing (like juice for breakfast) please do post that (or pm me so I can), so someone else doesn't bring the same thing.

I'll bring a few extra paper plates and napkins to have there for those who need them.

(By the way, I did take out what Kathy had volunteered to bring since she unfortunately can't come. I'm just updating the list in the original message up above.)
