Great Lakes “Tears Across dah U.P., eh?” gathering (August 2012)

The Great Lakes Chapter is having a special summer camping extravaganza called, “Tears Across dah U.P., eh?” which will consist of a traditional weekend gathering near Sault Ste. Marie on the eastern end of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (U.P.) followed by camping at three other campgrounds during the weekend (while visiting exciting U.P. attractions) culminating in a joint weekend gathering with the St. Croix Chapter on the western end of the U.P.

DATES: Friday, August 3, 2012 thru Sunday, August 12, 2012

WHERE: The Upper Peninsula of Michigan

WHAT: A “during the week crawl" across the U.P. sandwiched in-between two separate weekend gatherings. Come for 1 night, 9 nights, or as much as you can. You decide how much fun you can stand.

CAMPGROUNDS:
Friday and Saturday nights (August 3-4) at Brimley State Park
Sunday and Monday nights (August 5-6) at Tahquamenon Falls State Park
Tuesday and Wednesday nights (August 7-8) at the Indian Lake State Park
Thursday night (August 9) at J. W. Wells State Park
Friday and Saturday nights (August 10-11) at the Lake Gogebic State Park

WHY: Why not?

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES (details listed in thread):
Caravan across the Mackinaw Bridge, lunch at Antler’s Restaurant, boat tour of the Soo Locks, camp next to Tahquamenon Falls, tour of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, lunch at the West Bay Diner, boat tour of Pictured Rock Nat’l Lakeshore, Dine on a U.P. delicacy (“pasties”) at Dobber’s Pasties Restaurant, lunch at the Rusty Saw Blade Restaurant, and, most importantly, a group picture in front of the Naughty Cow Statue.

ANNOUNCEMENT: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5401.
For questions or comments, please post them in the announcement thread mentioned above or PM Great Lakes Chapter Director, Karl.

We hope you can enjoy this adventure with us!

Great Lakes “Tears Across dah U.P., eh?” gathering (August 2

Postby bcsnave » Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:15 pm

Karl ...what an amazing host/chapter director/planner. The 31 page route and itinerary was fantastic. The Soo Locks, the Pictured Rock, the museums...you planned out a great time. AND the pot lucks and breakfast' weren't too bad either.

Our hats go off to you Karl... THANK YOU

We are looking forward to the winter camping.

THE TEARS EVEN MADE IT ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE PRESS!...(and we got an autographed copy)

Just made it home from a partial tour with the group on the UP crawl. We had left Wednesday the 1st and came back today Monday the 6th.

We had a great time ...there were tears from Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Illinois, Indianna, Michigan, and WIsconsin.

Everyone was fun and certainly a good time was had by all. I'll put up a few pictures and can't wait to see the rest of the week.

Karl, what a fun gathering. The"rolling" gathering might be a thing of the future.

Your organization is amazing. Nobody can say the communication was lacking. Great job....
After the smoke clears, the review and evaluation of "what could we have done better" will begin. From what I see it will be a short discussion.

You are "the Man"

I'm still thinking about a "Triple D" gathering. "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" could be a fun trip as well but finding and coordinating the camping could be a challenge.

After all, Food is usually the main attraction for many gatherings

Anyway...Great Job on the gathering.
