Cooler (near/by) the Lake VIII food thread

This is shaping up to be a great--and big--event! Time to get organized as to the menu!

We generally have three events: a Friday evening wine/beer and cheese/snack party (5:30 or whenever Gary can sneak us into the shelter) a Saturday breakfast (9:00 a.m.), and a Saturday night potluck (6:00 p.m.). I will try to compile as we go and make sure that an updated list appears on each subsequent page. I'd say the breakfast is the meal most in need of planning, so I'm offering a list of suggestions. I will fill in as people send in their ideas either in a reply or a PM. Here we go:

Friday wine/cheese: This one doesn't need much organization--bring a beverage and a snack, no need to commit to something specific.
Pat and Mark--Bob Henry's Apple Pie (hot beverage with optional alcohol)

Saturday breakfast (Please just bring one thing--we always have way too much food):
Coffee, creamer, sugar (I'll bring the coffee urn)--Doug and Nan
Orange Juice--Verna
Other Juice.--Chuck and Theresa
Milk--Chuck and Theresa
Pancakes--Dan
Syrup *Important* --Dan
Butter (soft margarine)--Doug and Nan
Scrambled eggs
Sausage Links-- Pat and Mark
Bacon--
Fresh Fruit--Bill and Cindy (blueberries)
Coffeecake, bagels or muffins--Mike and Michelle (muffins); Sherry (bagels/cream cheese); Jenny and Dan (coffee cake)
Potatoes--cheese potatoes--Bill and Cindy
Set ups for omelets (BYO eggs)--Gary and Cheri
Oatmeal--Al and Annie

Saturday evening potluck:

Main dishes
WIld rice casserole--Pat and Mark
Barbecued chicken breast tenderloins--Verna
Barbacoa tacos--Mike and Michelle
Iron workers dinner--Wanna Be

Salads/vegetable dishes:
Veggie salad--Doug and Nan
Garlic mashed potatoes--Sherry
Corn casserole--Chuck and Theresa
Bok Choy salad--Jenny and Dan

Bread/rolls Grant and Diane

Dessert
Cookies, cake--Bill and Cindy
Fruit cobbler--Gary and Cheri

Pat, I'll bring Orange Juice (do you recommend one gallon or 1/2 gallon?) for Saturday breakfast, and I'll bring some Barbequed Chicken Breast Tenderloins for the Saturday night potluck.

You can put us down for muffins for breakfast and a main dish that is Barbacoa Tacos. We're trying to think spring, but it was snowing this AM so it's been tough!

Hi Pat, how are you and Mark? Missed seeing you last season. :(
Put Nan & I down for Coffee, Half & Half, Sugar, and Soft Margarine, for Saturday AM.
Some Veggie Salad, (probably, Broccoli & Cauliflower with Bacon), for PM.

Counting the days, Doug & Nan  8)

Good start! Verna, I think a gallon would be good.

Doug, we missed you and Nan last year! It's just not the same without you two. We had some great new attendees, though. Looks like this one will welcome even more!

Dan, Gary reserved the shelter quite some time ago, so no worries! I think in the main "Cooler" thread he mentioned the cost. It's down to something like 6 dollars per unit.

It's going to be great to see everybody again! Sherry, I am looking forward to seeing what new additions you have found for your teardrop!

Hey there! So excited that Cooler isn't that far away! Put Chuck and I down to bring milk and apple juice for b'fast and probably corn casserole for Saturday potluck as a side dish.

Friday: My favorite Shiraz and crackers.

Breakfast: FREEZER BAG OMELETTES

I went to Menard's and purchased an inexpensive chicken cooker. A chicken cooker is a burner on a stand that will hold a large pot. I will bring this to Cooler. If you have been to Camp Inn/Camp Outt you have seen them use chicken cookers to boil large pots of water into which you can drop a freezer bag filled with two or three eggs and various things like sliced ham, onion, mushrooms, cheese, and etc. Drop the bag into the boiling water and a couple of minutes later you have a fully cooked NO MESS omelette. In addition to the chicken cooker I will bring about 45 freezer bags, chopped onions, some shredded cheddar and fresh mushrooms. If you would like to volunteer to bring additional omelette options that would be great. If someone would like to bring a second chicken cooker that would solve the problem of a lot of people deciding they would like to try making omelettes this way. Lastly I AM NOT BRINGING THE EGGS so if you would like to try this for breakfast bring your two or three eggs along to breakfast on Saturday morning. This is what they are talking about doing at the St Croix gathering in Minnesota the week after Cooler.

If you have never tried this it really is a cool and non mess way to make a good omelette. You can serve alot of people fairly quickly

Supper: It will be in a Dutch Oven but I have not figured it out yet.

Gary :vroom:

Also Dan, I reserved the shelter before Christmas. If it turns out to be a cold Cooler we may want to also rent it all day on Friday but that will be decided later when we know what weather to expect. Shelter is $100 per day and divided by 22 trailers currently registered it's less than $5.00 per trailer per day. :money:

Diane says she will bake a bread. I would venture to guess there will be more than that but that is all she committed to.

On seeing what people are signing up for it looks like there is room for more desert so we will make a dutch oven fruit cobbler for Saturday night. One can never have enough desert  can they?
