So after reading all 19 pages.....sounds like I've got to make it on the for sure list! And I'm on it! I take a large T-shirt and I liked the green and yellow ones. I still can't upload pics to my profile or post...... first timer here lol. A few Q's about the camp site, will all of our tow vehicles be next to our teardrops or ttt's? In group camping I've seen them grooped together unhitched. Does anyone know if there is a list of people going to Yellowstone after the weekend at the new fork lake campgrounds? Another thought we could have a trailer show and have dog tags as a trophy, best in show, longest teardrop, widest teardrop, lightest teardrop, tallest teardrop, smallest ........things like that maybe idk just tossing some ideas up in the air. Any one know of a place to get blocks of ice close to the camp site?

okay folks I am home. its not hard to find. but not what I expected the web site blew the place up more that it really is.

will explain in debt later.

its not a bad place though but and a city guy from back east will be in heavon.

a country guy from wyoming that has seen more lakes and more place in the wind river moutains than new fork lakes all his life is going to get bored here.

okay photos are coming.

heres the dircetions.

when you get to pinedale go excatly 5 miles on the ordormeder west or north west out of pinedale to bodurant and hoback junction. at 5 miles out of pinedale.

turn right at the danele cora road. it will be by a large concrete oval over pass.

go north toward the moutains which you can't I repeat can't not see from the pinedale bonderant highway.

you will take the cora road noth excatly 14 miles.

there will be a yellow 60 mile and hour sign in the barow ditch and a dirth road on the right forking in two spots. from the pavement. there will be a green high way sign saying cora on it on the left of the road.

take the dirt road and drive in on it over the hill from the high way .

there will be a singe large one saying new fork lakes less than a hundred feet from the turn off to new fork lakes.

road is gravel and dirt and is nice to wyoming guys standards but might be a might rough for city dewels.

DON"T GET SCARED JUST SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL IF MUST BE!

its only excatly 3 miles in on the dirt road to a large sing by a brown large trash bin thats says group camp ground new fork lakes.

first though you will go though at mile 2 a cattle guard and a sign saying entering brigder teton national forest!

the road gets a bit rockery the last mile. but I have no fears for someone with a car and a harbor freright trailer teardrop and 8 inch wheels just don't try to drive like 80 on this dirt road.

there are some pot holes!

but they are real small

you will come to a large open spot that says new fork lakes campground right. and well graveled road to the right.

DONT" TAKE THIS ROAD!!!!!!!

keep on the main road and its only a hundred feet very small distance past the new fork lakes campground singe to the group site.

its well marked and is now blocked off by a road barrer.

there was no on there though and I walked with florin wyatt aroudn the road barrer and went over the hill into the trees and took lots of photos.

its all steve or wood butcher emagined and is just like in the website photos.

in my opion after checking out all the other camp spots its the easet thing to get into is the group site and the most well spuacuus to fit 30 teardrops.

the others the narrows was the prettyest and the other one was jsut to tight.

you would need to be a truck driver to get a trailer in them. and the sites were to small and tiny.

no campground at new fork lakes can see the lake from the camp ground sites or the surraounding moutains.

we will be surrounded by trees in the group site but well private from the rest of the traffic and area.

it will fit our needs. I do though want a diffrent spot next year.

to see the lake which is huge and pretty as is the moutains we will need to drop our teardrops in the group site and drive are cars only to go see the lake and surrounding area.

but as long as we got people in camp the group site is well isloated hid in the trees and well private to leave a teardrop unattended all day.

the lake was pretty large but to me I didn't liek it as I like to baot with a float tube or a jon boat when teardropping and the lake shore was steep and rocky and full of trees.

theres no place to really launch a boat other than the boat dock and with my large boat on my trailer I would not want to luanch it there the packing lot for the boat dock was to tiny to leave my car and boat trailer and the boat ramp was to steep to launch a boat from a trailer. you would be squaling your tires in 4 low to get out of there.

there was a couple of large boats going in to the lake and one on the lake though.

the fun part was the short cut I took on a dirt road 42 miles long called the big sandy cut off from south pass and the rest stop on south pass to the town of bouilder out side of pinedale 12 miles.

it was 42 miles of dirt road and 20 of pavement.

70 miles of preistene wilderness and some of the best photo shots I have gotten of the back side of the wind river moutains. it goes though the big sandy wildeness area.

apperntly others know the road as there was a lot of traffic on it and cars from califrona even out in the boonys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

every at least 15 or 20 minets I met a car or truck.

but it was a rare un known gem of wyoming prarrie land open range no people other than large ranches paridise.

I would not recomended it as you can get lost if dumb.

but it is well marked with very good blm sings and a common sense guy would not get lost.

I hope to take when bored at new fork lakes some guys from back east with cameras on a 70 mile afternoon drive to share a rare gem of wyoming with them.

it also cut liek 20 miles off he paved road though farson and 191 to pinedale.

from lander over south pass.
a warning to out of staters even though I saw califrona cars and subrous.

this was a real rough wash boardy road due to the high volumes of traffic off road.

it was not bad on pot holes and was well graveled.

and the sublet country road department awas putting craig water down to hold the dust and grading while I was out there.

but if you got false teeth stay on the pavement to farson

also dont' take this road with your teardrop in tow unless you got gas shocks on the trailer axles and springs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its a bit might to much wash boards for a on road teardrop!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay I got a lot of photos to download and farm and ranch schedule and girl freind that loves me very much and needs my time in her life.

so be patent!!!!!!!!!

photos will follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as will photos of where to turn.

pinedale is only 23 miles away from the new fork lakes and has a large grocery store a little hidden of the main drage. says ace hardweare on the side and is a ripplys store.

its not much of a turist town any more and reflects the last oil boom during the bush years and at one time was very much like williston north dackota.

ohma killed the oil drilling in the area and the oilfeilds have died down around pinedale.

theres still a lot of oil field traffic around town but its largly gone dead durign the resceion under obma.

town shows it is catering most the bussness not to turist any more but more to oil fieild hands.

I think we will find its a lot easer and more fun to drop teardrops and take carvans to other local lakes in the wind rivers and see the scenery and play on other lakes than just new forks.

it might be a good Idea to dream up some gathering fun things to do while at the campground.

and hiking and photos are still posisbel at new forks just as using the lake will be just your going to have to walk or drive to see it.

your not going to be able to walk out the door of the teardrop and into the lake and this is my main problem with the area.

we will be camping in pine trees surrounded much like irg and the red wood forrest gathering.

no electical hook ups.

and one large out house.

yes outh house. I even since it was not locked and no one was there.

walked into the womens bathroom and took a photo of it for the help to the women coming to the gathering.

its a tollet like modern looking tollet and it drops down into a large hole.

no plumbing.

large room no sink and skylights for lighting and vents for yea mother nature.

this will be ladies I amit a adventure of your life time.

but can be managed with a adventure spirt and mind.

we have large tables on concrete 20 so theres a place steve to light colemans and not set a fire.

thers a 4 park like bargbaque pits but last i head brigder teton was under a fire ban.

this may bave been lifted as it was a lot greener over in pinedale than on my side of the moutains.

and the large fontenelle fire is now out and the skys are free of smoke over there as they are in pavlliion and riverton and lander.

so dont run and be alarmed.

this will be a gathering to remmber and it still has the photos to remmber it just takes a little car drives or walkign to out of the camp ground to get them!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't run and this is a site easy for any one in a geo metro and a teardrop to get into .

don't panac and come enjoy the fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with a little less to do in the area we will just need to take lots of drives to get photos and need to get a bit more creative on internatement

and this will probaly be no diffrent for the guys that go to irg in californa.

its not a bad spot just not a sportsman or a fishermans idea of a dream spot.

unless you own a large boat and are good at luanching it.

for me folks remmber I look at everything with a idea of can I fish here or luanch a boat or a coanue or a jon boat here form my camp spot or teardrops front door.

I am a fisherman first when I go camping.

is all.

don't worry and if you like laying around camp in pine trees and just talking to folks and reading books and so on.

and cooking and just am a lay around camp type of camper.

you will be in heavon here at walk the winds 2012.

the temputure was only like 60 at the most so it was heavon to the every day this summer of 100 I have had down below in pavillion.

bring warm clothes at at 60 or 50s for day time highs we probaly will have cool nights.

but look at it this way there wont' be hardly a bug around in the hole place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never harldy saw a bug or fly in the hole joint.

so lets get cool from america's 2012 heat wave and national drought and lets met me in pinedale in august and lets cool off in the pine trees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

slowcowboy I am just back from the new fork lakes scout trip and yes. photos are coming just be patinent.

Hey Shawn , there are several people going on to Yellowstone after the gathering. Joe from Texas and I are heading there on Sunday with a stop in the Tetons Sunday night. We have reserved in Bridge Bay CG for Monday-Wednesday. Maybe some others will chime in with their plans. I like your idea of the contest for dog tag awards. I have no idea where to get custom tags done. If you want to take charge of it that would be great. We can do it Saturday night after the potluck. If you have any questions send me a PM.

Mike, great job of scouting at New Forks. You have earned a merit badge for that. The place sounds great. Much better then I pictured. Sure it would be better to see the lake and the mountains from the Camp site but being nestled in the trees will be fine. You have to remember that you look at the mountains all the time. Our mountains are high rise buildings. I have to drive about 600 miles to see a mountain. So a few miles by car will be a pleasure!
I will try and call the Rangers and see where we are with the fire ban. It sure would be nice to be able to Dutch oven cook or grill. Can't wait to see some pictures of the area. We all appreciate your extra effort on this. Did you get any fish?

It's getting close folks....

For those on the attending list, could you please post when you plan on arriving. There was some confusion in the beginning that we have the group site for Thursday the 16th, leaving on Sunday the 19th.

Woodbutcher has arranged the site, and we will be paying him when we get there. It's really inexpensive. I don't remember the exact amount. I'm sure he will chime in.

Our plans are to leave home Friday, Aug 10. We want to enter Yellowstone via Beartooth Pass from Montana on Monday. Spend MTW at Bridge Bay CG. Arrive Thursday at the gathering. Be back home Wednesday, Aug 23 via the Black Hills area.
If one's life is entertaining, there is no need to go and buy entertainment.

I'm planning on leaving NJ on the 11th, and hopefully be in Cheyenne on the 13th if I can handle three 10 hour days of driving. I very likely will be in Pinedale a day or two before the official gathering so will be there to greet everyone that arrives on Thursday. Like Woodbutcher, I am heading out Sunday and will stop in the Tetons and splurge on a campground with showers. I also have reservations at Bridge Bay, but only Monday night and Tuesday night, as I have a lot of stops planned on my drive home.

Has anyone heard of the Yellowstone Photo Safari. It leaves from Yellowstone Hotel at 5:45 am and is back by noon. Takes you to the falls (Grand Canyon of Yellowstone) amongst other places. I'm wondering if it might be worth having someone else do the driving?

heres a little of the haul on yesterdays photos of new fork lakes and the place we are going to hold our camp out.

Image

this is 5 miles from pinedale going west to bondurant and hoback junction.

this is where you will turn right onto the cora road and will drive due north 14 miles

excatly!

this is the daneil cora road junction 5 miles west of pinedale!!!!!!!!

okay 14 miles up the corea road will be this double wye dirt road looking turn

and it will have a yellow 60 mph turn sign in the middle.
it will say corea on a green high way sign on the other side of the road from the turn

and a hundred feet from it before you get to the turn to new fork lakes it will say on a sign new fork lakes turn off.

this is the turn off to new fork lakes.

this is what it looks like.

Image

drive in and turn right onto the dirt road and drive over the hill.

you will see the moutains when you drive over the hill and its excatly 3 miles in.

its a good graveled dirt road and mostly NO pot holes but just a bit rough. an vw bug with a on road teardrop will have no troubles.

at mile 2 you will come to the large gates and cattle guard of the bridger teton national forest!

this is what it looks like

its then just a mile or 2 further from the gates up the road to the group site at new fork lakes.

heres the gate to the forest.
gallery/image.php?album_id=511&image_id=95634&view=no_count

okay you will come to a clearing large in the trees and it will say a large sign

new fork lakes campground and a dirt road to the right!

DONT" TAKE THIS ROAD AND DON"T GO TO THE NEW FORK LAKES CAMPGROUND OR THE BOY SCOUT CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STAY ON THE MAIN ROAD AND IT WILL GET ROUGHER> BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its only only only a hundred feet past this sign to the group campground turn off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I repeat dont' turn right to the new fork lakes campgrounds!!!!!!!!!

stay on the ROAD!!!!! AND GO STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ITS ONLY A HUNDRED FEET TO THE GROUP SITE TURN OFF AND ITS A TURN TO THE

LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay.

there will be a double fork road in a wye just like the one you left the pavement on.

and a large brown dumpster for bears and trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is your group site turn. and a metal pipe barrer across the road.

that will be open on the day we are reserved for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heres where you turn looks like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Image

and the bear dumpster. all big and brown.

Image

okay I am now eating supper so more to come but now on our virtual tour you are here!!!!!!!!!!
