Dennis' mother's family is still in IOWA. Went last June for a week to a little town, Sac City, cool camping, even jacket weather one morning...wonderful place......would go back in a second....low 80's and no humidity to speak of. We camped in a little county park on the Raccoon River....You all set the dates......we would prefer a June date, but would work in any dates if possible. I tell you, the prettiest country...there was even a covered bridge there and we have pictures. Also lots, and lots of cemeteries.

There are 36 camping spots at Pammel State Park, and 34 spots in Winterset City Park. Also there are two other State Parks with in an hour of Winterset. And don't forget, Winterset is the birthplace of John Wayne! On the subject of weather... on October 2nd our scooter club did a ride down to Winterset from Des Moines, it was 58 and windy. This year the humidity in the summer was terrible! Winterset sounds like a good option for us, especially since one or both of us end up working most weekends!

Thanks for poking us QJ. Let's put it on the calendar for Aug 19-21 at Pammel Park. I'll call up there and find out when and how to make reservations as it doesn't seem you can make them online.

Nathan.. can you update the Gatherings page.

(PS if there is a contingent that wants to go in October when it might be cooler and the fall foliage might be in bloom, Oct 14th-16th would be a good weekend, it just isn't one that we can make.)

Yep.. we are on it. We are going to do a site visit here in 3 weeks and check things out. I called them last December and left a message about reservations but they never returned my call so I need to call them again and see how reservations work.

We are scheduled for Aug 19-21.

Aerial Shot

Postby GeoDrop » Wed Jan 26, 2011 2:30 pm

Here is an aerial of the park. They have 36 camping spots. Given it will be August, I would think we would want to try for the shaded spots. I've left another VM for them to get details on the costs and reservation process.

I'll keep everyone posted as details come together.

I've confirmed all of the information in the above post. So everyone can start making reservations. He did want to point out they are non-refundable. Sounds like there aren't any reservations for our dates.

I'll move this info to the first post.
