campground recommendations for northwest arkansas

Postby Dick » Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:24 pm

We're thinking about "getting out of town quick" for a well-deserved vacation after getting our only daughter married off last weekend. Looking for campground recommendations for: 1. Beaver Lake, 2. area around Eureka Springs and 3. Bull Shoals/Mtn Home areas. In the Beaver Lake there's about 8-10 different campgrounds - we would like to be close to the water and electricity - I know - not a good combination. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Dick/Kathy

Also - canoeing/campground in missouri north of Bull Shoals lake.

Didn't they have flooding in a campground in Arkansas that killed 11 people?

arkansas camping

Postby Dick » Sun Jun 20, 2010 10:51 pm

Jeanne - didn't end up on a bluff but did... Just got home this aft after 6 nights of camping and little over 1,000 miles. First - Roaring River SP for a night, then to Beaver Lake for two nights and Norfork Lake for three nights. The two AR parks were beautiful. Had a mixture of thunderstorms couple of times - no leaks in td though; nice cool evenings; some hot, hot unbearable days; had lots of good grape products for evenings by the lake; and great time. It's always good to get home though. Hoping to drop by Branson and see you/Dennis but didn't make it - drove straight to Norfork from Beaver on Thursday and luckily got one of the last campsites - guess everybody was getting out for Fathers Day. We did decide that we overlooked one item when we built - an air conditioner. See you all at Crawford if not before.

Hi Boys and Girls! I'm reviving this thread because my gal and I are making plans to tug the tear to Arkansas sometime around early May. I figure someone has some favorite campgrounds in the NW part of the state that they just haven't mentioned yet.

Now I know what you are thinking, "do a search man, you find plenty of information". Well now I'm working on that but the closest I've found so far is a more general "favorite campgrounds" thread. In that thread they recommend the "just about any" state campground in Arkansas. I've looked for the "just about any" campground but I just can't seem to find it on the map... ;)

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Go here and review the different state parks in the area you want to visit.

http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/

Devil's Den and Lake Fort Smith are really nice. If you go a little bit more west, Bull Shoals is another good one.

Here is a link to COE campgrounds for that area:

Pete, we are having snowpocalypse here in Missouri and a lot of Arkansas is in even worse shape than us. Maybe it will be gone by May.

We have a gathering at Natural Falls State Park in Ok. West Siloam Springs April 29,30, may 1
In May we have a gathering at COE park, brand new re-build 13,14,15. It is called Mill Creek just outside of Kimberling City almost to Lampe. Missouri on Tablerock Lake.

THINK SPRING!!!

Postby Pete S » Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:50 pm

@ Susann: Exactly what I was looking for! Very helpful! Thank You!

@ Jeanne: I'm not worried that there will be snow on the ground. Heck, it is almost spring! The groundhog didn't see his shadow so you know it's true. Up here we are a whole lot closer to the arctic circle and I'm betting that we'll be fishing "soft water" by the first week of April. By the time we get down there you Branson folks will probably be sporting some good tans...

Thank you for the tip on Mill Creek. It looks looks mighty darned nice. I'll have to check and see what the exact dates are for this excursion to see if they match up with that gathering of yours.

First trip to the Ozarks and I'm really looking forward to it!

Pete:

Glad I could help. What you like to do when you camp will also help narrow down the selections, and if you want electric or not. I have camped at the 3 State Parks I mentioned and I really like them.

I really like Long Pool in the COE website. White Rock Mtn is nice, but no electric, Shores Lake is another good one.

Well it looks like we have a plan. We changed our dates to the Mill Creek weekend and we'll use Mill Creek as a base camp to poke around NW Arkansas.

It'll be fun!

Have you made a reservation Pete? Here's the current map. 64 was open last I checked and it's right in the middle of the action.
