My folks had a membership back when they first opened in the 70's. It was a nice place and if I remember right the swimming pool is actually built out into the lake and had a sand beach.

Interesting. We have some camping friends that live in Lone Jack. I will see if they have a first hand experience with the place.

This past weekend [Labor Day]I and two buddies put on a Camp Cooking demo and camper show at Lake Paradise campground.It is a great campground with 600 plus sites,loads of trees and several things to do.

and Nathan, this was the first time we have done this in any organized way,

my friends from Lone Jack say they used to go there all the time as a kid and there are some really nice sites there. Looks like some good camping potential!

Kathy and I got a chance to go through this campground this afternoon. It's only 20 minutes from our house, so we thought it would be convenient for a quick weekend getaway at the last minute.

Here is what we found:

- very large campground with several lakes
- several bathrooms spread around a very large campground
- one shower area by the office
- good size swimming area, surrounded by a dock
- several hundred campsites
- very nice and helpful young girl running the entrance gate - she answered all our questions and welcomed us back if we wanted to camp

Just some thoughts and recommendations:
- most of the sites, even the wooded ones, are VERY close to each other. Where state parts have 3 sites near each other, they have 7 in the same amount of space in many areas. Due the large size of the park, I have a hard time thinking they get very filled up being out in the middle of nowhere unless it's a holiday. So... you will probably have sites next to you, but they will be empty.
- if you have a lowered vehicle or a low-slung hitch, driver carefully as there were a few washouts on the campground roads. I don't think this will be an issue, but just be careful - yes, this means you Darren
- if you are going out there, I recommend not making reservations unless you have scoped out the spot before hand. Many of the spots are too small for a teardrop(yes, really), don't have firerings or are too washed out to park in. If an electric site, be sure to test the outlet first as some posts look pretty well used.
- most of the occupied spots had big RV's in them, so you won't see those people out very often. There were a few pop-ups and one tent. Watch out for the kids driving golf carts and not paying attention.

All in all, it was a park going through some updates since opening up to the public. Many sites needed work, but there were so many, you could probably always find an OK spot once you got there. Definitely get a map at the gate house before you drive through or you will get turned around easily.

In looking at the rates(in the link at the beginning of this thread), Kathy and I decided we would just to go to a state park instead - better maintained sites, more space, more showers and best of all: cheaper. However, we will drive through again next season to see if anything has changed here.

Thanks for the park report. It reads much like some other reviews I had found. It does sound like they are working on improvements but it will take some time.
