We were really planning on making it to the Crawford Lake gathering this year but once again "stuff" happens.

We are going to make a short trip Saturday and Sunday the 30th and 31st. Anyone have anything going on within 3 hours or so of Topeka.

We have to get one more trip before we store it away for the winter so we can justify having it. :D

Jack
That's the weekend of LCG down by Shereveport LA. It's farther than 3 hrs from Topeka but well worth the trip if you can make it.

Gary

Have you got any parks/destinations in mind?

Knob Noster in Missouri is just over 2 hours from Topeka according to google.

Not all of us are heading south to LCG.

Gary I would love to go to LCG but the time and distance are out of the question this time. Maybe next year. Or the year after that. Or...

Nathan are there camp grounds around Knob Noster that you like?

There is a state park at Knob Noster:
http://www.mostateparks.com/knobnoster.htm
The campground map:
http://www.mostateparks.com/knobnoster/camp1.htm

To make a reservation, besides paying an additional fee, "they" require a 2 night stay (Fri & Sat) on weekends. I checked last night and there were about 7 sites reserved for that weekend.

You mentioned just Saturday and Sunday. We could skip reservations and do that, show up Saturday morning and pull out Sunday morning. I'm pretty confident we will be able to grab some sites this time of year. Just have to pay at the park when they come around.

Some of us stayed there last year, here are those photos: 2009 Knob Noster

Some others not going to LCG may come out and join us.

Let me know how that sounds to you.

That sounds like the plan I had Nathan. Pop in Saturday back home on Sunday.
We will mark it on the map and calender and see what happens.

Nathan and Jack
If Knob Noster is full you could check out Lake Paradise at Lone Jack It's a little more expensive but big enough that there should still be room.

Jack, I have it planned. I've done pretty good camping most months this year. I hope to get in another in November before it gets too cold for me.

Thanks Gary, that is an alternative that isn't that far away. You guys have fun down south.

Any others not going down to LCG want to come out and join us at Knob Noster?

Somehow I missed your post Jeanne. It's a beautiful park but I'm trying to hang on to some vacation time. Petit Jean would require at least one day extra to travel down (for me).

When you are at Petit Jean check out the closing dates (remodel) - for the lodge and the restaurant. Donna saw a sign but we failed to followup and get definitive dates. We found the restaurant to be the best value eatery of our recent trip. Good food and great prices.

When we went there for vacation several years ago, we ate breakfast there and found the prices VERY reasonable. They have a deck that is to die for and a view that's just as good. There's a bunch of hummingbird feeders on the porch that will keep you entertained.

Jeff and Jeanne, wasn't there a June gathering in Petit Jean some time ago? On the years opposite the ITG at Minden, Nebraska. Perhaps we need a new thread for Petit Jean?

Anyone not going south to LCG want to come out to Knob Noster for a short trip Saturday and Sunday the 30th and 31st of October? We are planning on a single night (Sat) so no reservation (or registration fee).

Just checked the reservations: 11, 20, 22, 24, 25, 28, 49, 50 are the only sites reserved to date. So we should have plenty of sites to pick from.

Nthan, we will come to Knob Knoster. The Petite Jean was a couple or three ago and They all said it was the hottest and most miserable (they weren't at Fort Gibson in July with us) camp trip of their lives....One reason I put on the one for November, but alas there are not many available at that time I guess.
We are going to Arrow Rock tomorrow the scope things out. Spend the weekend and make reservations in person.

See you the 30th...QJ
