Interesting. We just watched a travel documentary on scenic drives around the U.S. and it included the bridges of Madison County. I looked it up and we decided it would be a great destination (for us about 5 hours).

LCG is at the end of Oct. I would think for fall color in mid-Iowa it would have to be the second or third weekend in October. The weather channel's fall foliage page says south central Iowa is peak now. http://www.weather.com/outlook/driving/ ... detail/ia3

Updated In the park's web site camping section it has
Bridge Festival: October 7, 8, & 9

That is for this year. Might be hard to get into their 36 camp sites during their festival.

Image a bit of fall color.

Go for it. Figuring out the timing will be the hardest part. When you get that figured out let me know and I'll add to our "2011 gatherings" post.

One of the advantages of being married to a teacher is June July and August, one of the disadvantages is June July and August, so long trips are for the most part, are out of the question other than those three months until she retires.

I think October 14th weekend would be ideal but that weekend is our granddaughters birthday and we'll be in the Quad Cities area.

It's pretty far out to set a hard date but I can see doing Oct. 21st weekend or possibly in early September on Labor Day weekend.

:o I am betting lots of folks from here and north will enjoy that. However if you plan it for Crawford those of us local won't be going. Hopefully I can keep the truck in good shape and the springs on the TD done..... :worship:

We might be up for that, depending on the date you choose. Sounds fun.

Given those dates, Oct 21, 2011 weekend would be better for us.

? I didn't understand that. He mentioned labor day weekend which is early in Sep about three weeks before Crawford. (May be hot and muggy yet). Or the third weekend in October which is probably one week prior to LCG. May be cool and past prime fall color.

Matthew did mention an alternative to LCG for northern neighbors. In our case it's 10.5 hours to LCG and 5 to Winterset, IA. (according to google).

I hope you have the best of luck on your truck and TD springs.
