When:
September 25th, 26th, 27th & 28th, 2014

Where:
Eastridge Campground Canon City, CO

For those that have GPS units, the coordinates for the campground are
N 38° 27.916 W 105° 17.510

This campground is City owned and NOT marked, therefore, no cost, it is PRIMITIVE! But incredibly beautiful!
There are 2 vault toilets and no water. This is a “true” camping experience in our tears… There is plenty of room for everyone, with or without teardrops. We will have to bring in firewood; there are fire pits and hopefully, depending on the weather, NO fire ban. There are 2 pavilions with concrete tables in each. However, we have found that the upper pavilion is very windy! So… Look for the signs on ‘our’ pavilion!

It will be cool to cold at night, bring extra blankets, heaters or what you may need to have a comfortable night!
Stores are few and far between and prices a little higher than in town. That being said, Canon City is just a few miles down the road with unlimited options!

Map to Royal Gorge:
http://www.royalgorgebridge.com/Directions.aspx

Follow the signs from Highway 50 towards The Royal Gorge Bridge. Once past what was Buckskin Joes, the road will climb through some tight curves. You will encounter a tight hairpin curve that climbs to the left. After the curve, at the top of the hill, you will see a picnic area to your left, THIS IS NOT IT!

The “Last Gasp of Summer” 2014
A little further on your left will be a dirt road. Take it and follow the red/white/blue streamers to help you find your way to the campground. The road is passable for two-wheel drive, however, it has some ruts, so go slowly. Watch for the ribbons and be prepared for an awesome “Colorado style” camping experience!
We’ll do a pot luck supper Saturday night and I know a few of you are already packing up your dutch ovens… Bring your chairs so we can circle the fire!

Come camp with me, let’s have some fun!

There are some amazing things to see and do in the area, The Royal Gorge Bridge, the Arkansas River, hiking, biking, white water rafting and for more info: http://www.canoncitychamber.com

Hi Pam,
I heard the news tonight saying that there may be an early winter storm hitting Colorado; it might be a good idea to take your long handles along. Even if no snow, it could be be a bit nippy :snow

What does the weather report say on your end?

John and Lucy,

Canon City is in a banana belt... usually their weather Isn't as bad as elsewhere in the state... it is predicting 74-76° in the daytime all four days getting down to 43-44° at night... I will post as accurate as they give me when we get within 10 days!!!

We have had a day of wind or rain on occasion but it is rare and this is #NINE! :) WOW!!! # NINE!!! LOL!!!

You guys coming out??? Come camp with me!!!

ONE WEEK!!!

Closing in on time to hit the road!!!

Some of our members/dear friends George and Kate scoped out our campground last weekend... Yes, it is still there and YES, I have reserved out pavilion...

Because of the rain we have had this season, a few of the roads are rutted deeply! Please proceed slowly and carefully, however, they are 2 wheel drive passable. The lower road running parallel to the pavilion has a couple deep ruts that may cause bottom dragging on low clearance vehicles. The alternative is to take the road through the middle of the meadow. The streamers will show you the way.

Also, because the Royal Gorge Bridge was closed part of the summer, the traffic flow in our campground has been much less and the weeds have grown abundantly. George and Alan have volunteered to go out Wednesday with weed whackers and cut down some growth. Anyone else that would like to come up and help would be greatly appreciated!!! If interested please bring weed whackers.

The weather report shows high 70's, low 80's in the day time and low 50's at night!!! Great Last Gasp weather!!!

Looks like a fantastic time, can't wait to see you there!!!

Come camp with me!!!

Pam
