Hi Gang,

As the last snow from last week's blizzard has melted, and it has warmed up the last few days here in the mountains of Western NC, I find my thoughts turning back to camping and my as yet unfinished little camper trailer. I've been hanging out on the list since June 2007, but I haven't made all that much progress actually building.

My Wife had the idea maybe we should have a consultation/build get-together, party, whatever, maybe I could get some expert teardrop consultants over here to help me get it started, get unstuck. I'm not asking anyone to build it for me, but maybe help me at least feel like I've got some direction, some progress on it.

Was wondering if there would be any interest if we had a teardrop raisin' party some weekend coming up? Maybe barbecue some, meet some friends, get some tips, get me a'building?

Any thoughts?

Thanks, AL in Asheville

Hey, Al!

That sounds like a cool idea ... get a bunch of folks together to talk teardrops, give you all some tips & ideas, get the juices flowing ... maybe even get a couple of parts together as an "exercise" ... ;) ... have a Bar-Bee, tip a few cool beverages ... yeah, I like it! If I were a bit less than 3,000 miles away, I'd be willin' ... ...!

Good Luck ... hope you get a few folks on board with this! As always, then ...

CHEERS!

Al,

Why are you stalled?

In the build sequence, as I have it laid out in the Generic Build, which step are you stalled at?

If you can get a few to come, have them bring their trailers... seeing them in real life helps get the thought process going.

If I wasn't 700 miles away, I'd come.

If you have not, take a look at my link. It might give you some ideas/help.

Bringing the TD along

I was thinking if anyone wanted to camp overnight I have a large backyard with a view of the mountains. We're just 5 minutes off the Blue Ridge Parkway, 5 minutes from the Mall (for those in one's clan with interests other than TD's), 10 minutes from beautiful downtown Asheville.

I've not gotten very far at all. I have the floor framed out in 2x4's, but not bolted to the trailer yet.

Following up - Teardrop Party in Asheville (?)

Postby Alfred » Sun May 24, 2009 1:22 pm

Hey Gang,

Following up my initial post, thought I would try again, now that I am further along in my build.

We would still like to host a consultation/build get-together/party, get some expert teardrop consultants together, maybe some new builders too, who are in the process of building could bring what they've got, we could all spend a day, consulting/helping each other. Sort of like an old time barn-raisin'. I'm about to attach the walls and could use an extra set of hands or two, would be willing to lend some, as well.

Was wondering if there would be any interest if we had a teardrop raisin' party some weekend coming up? Maybe barbecue some, meet some friends, get some tips, make some progress?

I have a big back yard, which could probably accomodate a few teardrops, we are 5 minutes off the Blue Ridge Parkway, you can see the mountains from our backyard. For any nonbuilders in attendance, we are 5 minutes from the Mall, Cinema, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 10 minutes from beautiful downtown Asheville.

Any folks interested, let me know and maybe we can make it happen!

Al,
When are you thinking of doing this? Mine isn't done but it is almost camp ready. I've been looking forward to taking the family up to the mountains, could always make it an extended weekend and give you a hand. I don't have experience with traditional tears (mine is a bit different) but have plenty of woodworking skills. Let me know and we'll see what we can work out.

Planning build party

Postby Alfred » Wed May 27, 2009 6:30 pm

Hi Y'all,

Will consult with the sweet Wife tonight and come up with a couple of possible dates for your consideration. With your feedback, will identify the best date and work toward that! I would like to do it in June, if possible, as there is a TD gathering in VA I would like to attend the weekend of 7/11/09.

Saturday 6/20/09 (?)

Postby Alfred » Wed May 27, 2009 10:31 pm

Hi Gang,

Consulted with the sweet Wife and we are going to suggest the weekend of 6/19-6/20-6/21, specifically the build get-together on Saturday, 6/20/09.

Would that work?

Hey Al,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. My wife and I went over the calender and it looks like I can make it that weekend although I will have to come solo. May just come up for the 20th. Let me know of any changes. Looking forward to meeting you and the family!

Hey Andy,

Great to hear from you. I have a couple of other folks who are 'maybe's' at this point. You are first solid confirmation. Hoping some other folks will still respond. Looking forward to seeing anyone, everyone, whoever comes.

Meanwhile continuing to plug away, I've got a friend from work supposed to come over tomorrow or Friday and help me get the walls up.

Wow, I just realized that I had initially made plans to be up in that area from the 18th-20th for the T-Bucket Nationals in Lenoir. Guess I'll just have to get up there early and check it out. HMMM! 6 hours in a T-Bucket towing a tear!! Uh, I think I'll take the truck.

Canceling Asheville TD Consult Party

Postby Alfred » Wed Jun 17, 2009 6:56 pm

Hey Gang,

As I only had one solid confirmation for this weekend, looks as if the TD Consult Party is not going to fly at this time. Would be happy to have it some other time, or to come if anyone else nearby wants to have a gathering at their place sometime in the future.

I will give an open invitation to anyone in the area who wants to stop by anytime to chat TD's!
