Cleburne State Park activities? I'm planning on three nights Thurs-Sat, and that'll mark the longest period I've been away from home for 29 years (21 years with this wife, 2 interim years, 6 years enslaved to first wife). Without my dogs, cars to tinker with, trailer to re-build (hopefully nothing will fall off on the short trip to the site!), I'll need something to do to fill the hours. I will only bore you guys with my conversation for a short time, if I have an alternative outlet to occupy me. I am a lousy card-player, so that's probably out. "Trivial Pursuit" was a game I used to excel at, but that's so "80's", and there was this knife-fight at the last game.... I make up Latin-English hybrid words, so "Scrabble" is a no-go. My knees are bad, so even though I did some limited hiking at DinoValley and Beaver'sBend, I felt it later. I was wondering...how about biking? Not what the guys on the bicycle forum do, but following the trails shown on the TPWD brochures? Does anybody do this, in South Central ?; I didn't notice any bikes at my two previous campsites. If any are game, clue me in. I'll try to get a cheap (read "Walmart") bike,

and a helmet ?? (is this really necessary? in a park), before Thursday. If the helmet is required, I guess my 'ole racing helmet would be overkill (and hot), so I'll leave it in the Chevelle.

I don't know if I can procure a bike by then (Craigslist was discouraging), so I'll need to know if it will be worth a search. I'd like company on my "low impact exercise". Anyone?

We will be there on Thursday as well. I plan to spend my time relaxing & BS'ing around the campfire. I don't have very much firewood so if anyone can bring some that would be good. I'll also bring a couple of tables for the potluck on Saturday evening.

Linda and I aren't going to be able to make this trip, but we always bring bikes. Usually we just putt around on the park roads. If there are some easy off-road trails we'll ride on them too. (Our mountain biking days are past us.) We should wear helmets but usually don't.

Different parks are more picky about helmets but lucky for you we (as a group activity) don't go bike riding, Woody said it best that we just like to relax, I like to go on the walking trails if it isn't too warm otherwise that's it! I have a huge stack of split wood and an empty truck bed so I will fill it up, that will only get us through a couple of nights but I will bring it! I have one big table too and will also be there Thursday!

Since we have like 30 people coming we might talk food too, does anyone already have something planned for the pot luck? We don't want to all show up with drumsticks!

Terri and I will bring a chicken-tortilla casserole with rotel, and maybe a tomato salad. And we will also bring some firewood to make the evenings more festive. :woohoo: :campfire: :campfire: :chips:

That's a thought... I see a possible theme here, drumsticks: turkey legs, leg of lamb, leg of venison, ham on bone, et al????

Oh, I went ahead and bought the cheap Walmart bike (and helmet) anyway. The wife had wanted one (a better one, of course) for six months, so I took advantage of the situation and got one, too. I haven't ridden a bike since '89; I rode up and down my sandhill driveway a few times...my muscle memory isn't the same! :sweaty:

Just a reminder... there are two loops... Cedar Grove and Keyhole. We are aiming for the Cedar Grove loop when we arrive on Thursday so when you arrive request this loop first. The Cedar Grove loop only has 16 sites so if you arrive Friday try to get there EARLY or be prepared to possibly camp "remotely" at the keyhole loop and drive over to hang out. Here's a map...

Somebody say food, not sure what food we will bring, or what type of helmet we will bring.

Our plan was to leave Friday morning but now I'm thinkin we might just head out in the middle of the night to get there around 7am Friday morning to hopefully get a spot in Cedar Grove.

That might be a good call! We'll put the good word in at the park and let them know we have 16 campers for a loop with 16 sites but it's all a crap shoot if they wish to, or can accommodate us or since there may already be others set up.

I am doing smoked sausage or drumsticks and I got the camper all loaded and all the firewood loaded in the truck!
