Can a canoe be used at Isle Du Bois or is it like a lot of Corps lakes with the shore lined with riprap? Will it likely be too cold to be on the water?

Dec. 4th is the Christmas Parade in Krum (15 miles away) and Kim & I will be attending that. We will try to come out at some point on Saturday though.

woodsmoke, don't know about the riprap on the shore but it will likely be cold. It's a big lake & when the wind blows from the north it's pretty cold. We try to get campsites with a lot of trees to block the wind if it does blow.

Not sure about pulling the Scamp. You might ask Ron about that. Did you get your tranny fixed?

I think the Honda would pull the Scamp OK personally, but hey, I drove back from Sulphur Springs last year towing the teardrop with no brakes too, so don't put my advice in writing.

I thought we had planned it on the weekend of the 10-12th so I had taken that Friday off already, I'll see what the schedule looks like and see if I can swap it around. I want to do all the camping spots I missed last year, and I would love to do two weekends in a row!

I do have training on Dec. 11th. It's high speed pursuit driving so I do not want to miss it. Cindi and I could still camp that weekend but I would have to be gone most of Saturday. It's up to whatever works for everyone else. I do like camping out there in December and I really like the Sunday morning breakfast.

WELL, that settles that were camping on the 4th Dec. ye ha

Is there a weather disclaimer to that declaration?

You should not have a problem putting a canoe in the lake. Ray Roberts is a Corps lake, but not a constant level lake, so it has tapered beaches, not riprap.

The water will be chilly, but as long as the air temperature is reasonable, it should be fine for canoeing. Early December can be really pleasant, or pretty cold in these parts (I live 20 miles from that park). It fluctuates, so check the forecast a few days before you come.

The site says there is no availability, but from what I hear that is typical, I will call the res center on Monday. Just FYI if anyone else is trying to book, it is probably just the lousy new site.

As far as canoeing, it is permitted at Du Bois. You can also fish from the shore w/o a permit.

I will attend this year. I live close enough to come join you on Friday evening. I have a conflict on the 4th with an annual church activity (and they added one more for that evening). It will take up most of my Saturday afternoon. I won't camp though...even as I am typing this, I am trying to figure out how I can still camp. I don't want to miss the Saturday night festivities.

Anyway, I'll figure something out. I can bring a desert and/or Fritos for Friday evening.

That sounds like what Oklahoma parks show, all booked up , because the park is technically closed. But some aren't gate locked so you can still camp.

I hope to drive down EARLY Saturday morning, if Kenny doesn't come and I can get the weekend off, then maybe I will just borrow his truck and pull the Scamp. It's all up in the air right now.

What's the "two weekends in a row" several of you refer to?
