Caprock Canyon State Park VS Palo Duro in May???

Postby CASHCOW » Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:41 pm

Several people have said they were not to excited about going to PDC again in may due problems in the past.

Mike and I were wondering if anyone would be up for Caprock Canyon State Park this May instead of Palo Duro Canyon?

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/find ... k_canyons/

Maybe I got this link in here right. We have been there camping and it was not bad.

There is a map on the web page. Honea Flats is the only camping area with electricity/ water hookups. It has 30 and 50 amp sites. The 50 ampsites are much more "Large-group" friendly. But they are all not that far apart. Believe me, we have all been farther apart at LCG. ;) Spaces 28, 30, 32 and 34 have shelter-eating areas that could be great for a big campfire and pot luck area.

If you think y might be interested you might let us know.

As long as it doesn't conflict with Crystal Beach and I have the $$$ for both, I would like this because it is a 5 hour vs. 7 hour drive for me, but that's just me!

I have stayed there many times, including three times this summer, and have no problem with either park.
I think the restroom/ shower area is not as good as Palo Duro, but have seen a lot worse.
There is an Allsups about 15 minutes away if you need supplys and two eating places if you get tired of camp food.
The staff is very friendly.
Im up for either park. Ronnie

Silverton, which is the town 15 minutes away, has one of the best barbecue places in the Panhandle, according to Texas Highways.

If you find that Caprock Canyons doesn't suit you, take a look at Copper Breaks State Park:

I'm one of the "Palo Duro" weary campers. The weather the last two years was brutal.

I'm doing Crystal Beach, too, so I'll have to wait and see how my finances are before I can commit to another long trip that month.

I would like to see Cap Rock park.

I agree with all of the above. As long as it doesn't conflict with Relay for Life or The Beach Bash.

Brenda, we're planning on going to the Beach Bash the first of May so it would be hard for us to go to Palo Duro or Caprock the same month. However we could go to either one the first of June. That will give us enough time to get the sand out of everything.

We wouldn't mind seeing the play in Palo Duro.

Either park is ok with us, just not in May.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Woody,
I agree with you guys. May is probably out for many people because of the Beach Party. I forgot about that. Then we have Mothers Day in there and it really screws the dates up. Maybe we could do PDC or Caprock Canyon in June. I know the weather would be much better for PDC in June because May is always an iffy month.

I doubt we will be able to make it to the beach party unless I have some days left to take off. That is a longgggggggggggggggg trip for the CASHCOW but we just might surprise ourselves and be able to go after all. The beach is awesome in May...........

Just glanceing at the Caprock page...it looks nice. I would like to see a new place. I think the one thing that could sweeten the deal at PDC is a move in date, so that we could all go to the play, and maybe get a little nicer weather. I think last year we spent more time in Amarillo, shopping, then we did in the canyon, camping.

:rainy:

I think my wife and I would like to see a different park in that area, but the play sounds awesome too. Maybe we could camp at Caprock Canyon and make a field trip to Palo Duro to see the play. But we are pretty easy either way.

Caprock Canyons looks like the place to go! How about the first weekend in June? The 2nd or 3rd through the 5th?

There will be a group of us going to Caprock Canyons the last weekend in June. We are making plans to be there the 24th, 25th, and 26th. We would love for you to join us!
