How far is it from the park? I did not join in that activity in the past, but I am "equipped" now.

What time would the group be headed over to the range? Looks like we're headed out early saturday morning instead of friday night.

The range is not far from the campsite, about 15 minutes. We usually go in the morning on Friday or Saturday.

I'm working on a plan to bring my motorcycle, and my camper at the same time.
I want to arrive early and go visit relatives in Texas without the truck and trailer.
I can't tow doubles (against the law).
I can put the bike in the back of the truck, and tow the camper.

I need to know if there are any reasonably deep ditches, or retaining walls, or other places in the park that I can unload the bike using a ramp, that would put the back of the truck and other end of the ramp close to level?

The google maps show some ditches, and what look like platforms the campers set on.
Can one back up to one of those platforms?

Thanks!

Rob

Hey Rob, not real sure, but the lake near the camping area is dry, at least it was last year. What about backing up to one of the piers? Crazy thought I know. What do you think Jack?

Rob, you could probably back up to one of the wooden decks that is tailgate high.

A good thought Glenn. Perhaps the one at Warpony's site if I remember correctly. Use the pier (if needed) as a backup option.

Thanks guys,

A boat dock would be a very good solution.
CD, that looked like my best option, but wasn't sure if the ground around the platforms was wet swamp...
I suppose with the lake level down 7', it should be dry enough.
Jeff, is that okay with you?

pulling into the lake not advisable--the shoreline is ringed by a swath of normally submerged cypress root system that looklike tire spikes 2-6 inches tall. You would risk either damaging that root system or tire puncture. I think unloading to one of the elevated decks would be a possible option.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Thanks to all for the tips and ideas for unloading the bike...but it isn't going to happen...
I finally had a chance this morning to (try to) load the bike on my truck, and it won't fit :(

Sometimes these wild ideas work, and sometimes they don't.
No matter, I still get to go camping and make some new friends!

 Looks like the weather will be perfect for camping!

Does anyone know if there's a burn ban? (If so, MJ usually is able to get a "local exemption" for campfires.)

Can't wait to see everyone. We're heading out Thursday. I told my wife we're leaving at 10:00 am so that means we'll probably hit the road at noon. :?

I don't think there is a burn ban now. We just got a couple days of nonstop rain.
