I checked the SP website and the burn ban is still in effect, however it says cooking with charcoal is OK.

Thanks Woody!

I dug the camp gear out of the shed today and dusted off the teardrop. We should be there around 2:00.

working on it wrote:Thanks for your offer, 2bits. I do hope that I will be found to be acceptable to the other campers, as I am by nature an extroverted introvert (slow to make friends, then, watch out!). I actually don't have any photos of myself on hand to show myself to you, as I am in the witless protection program, and am not particularly photogenic either. I might chance a self portrait, as I have a spare camera, if the lens might shatter. My wife is hot-cold on camping in the little trailer (she didn't want it, then did, now not sure)...she doesn't plan to use it in October on an extended trip into the wild (and at the same time, foiling my plans for LCGVIII). And we can't both be gone from home over 18 hours or so (11 pets to care for). My record time away from home is 36.5 hours (twice!),in the last twenty years. See my post under Beaver's Bend 2014 for details. I'm going to plan on Beaver's Bend in April, if open, and will post a notice on the wall, so she CAN'T forget and schedule a conflicting trip. But, then again, its her nature....

We are all used to doubling up. We can all beg the park office when we get there Thursday!

2 bits- you asked for it, you got it. Observe the avatar now. Now you know why my wife keeps me confined at home, with the dogs to warn people away! Believe it or not, this was the best photo of 12 taken...in most, I had a surly look; this is me smiling. :)

No rain allowed and don't tell Danny

Only 40% on the forecast I looked at.

I've been following the weather too. The rain prediction started low around 30%, seemed to peak at 60%, and is now back down to 40%.

There's a cold front coming from the Pacific northwest that is the cause of this predicted rain event. The timing and location of the front as it moves southeasterly seems to be changing. The front is arriving later and is moving further east than they initiallly predicted. Hopefully the front will either miss us altogether or will arrive late Sunday afternoon when we're on the road returning home.

Good thing we're camping in Texas because the weather can change in a moment.

The forecast this morning was for it to move in around 5pm. It could change but if that holds true we will be gone before the pot luck. After the last two September monsoons, we vowed never to do that again. And I doubt Glen Rose has a nice big pavilion like Joe Pool did.

We will have to see how the forecast goes through the week.

Mark,
I agree with you. We got caught in the downpour at LCG last year and it took days to dry out. We love our teardrop but it is too small to holed up in for a long time.

Hopefully the forecast will change.

Take care,
Tom

If the weather goes bad, then maybe I won't need a second day reserved after all. As a trailer camping neophyte, I was going to "observe the habits of the natives in their natural surroundings" ( I watched too many National Geographic specials, as a youth). If you experienced guys don't show, then I may never learn how to (properly) camp in a tiny trailer! Unless the weather gets really bad on Friday morning, or a line of tornadoes is observed moving toward Glen Rose, then I'll be at the entrance to DinoValley at or around 1pm. I hope to see some or all of you, since I've missed at least a year of camping that I had planned on (I had guaranteed to come to Joe Pool last year, but failed). One thing seems assured (if y'all are correct about the impending deluge), I'll get to test the weatherproofing (or lack thereof) of my trailer.
