This was posted before I joined, but how did New Mexico get separated from the rest of the Southwest? Being a New Mexican and having lived in every part of the state, I never met anyone who thought of our state as part of any region but the Southwest. Is this some arbitrary designation like Pluto isn't a planet anymore. Please explain, if you can. Is this for what rallies are closest? :scratchthinking: :QM

Southwestern United States Wikimedia
The states shown in dark red are usually included, while all or portions of the
striped states may or may not be considered part of the Southwestern United
States.

Statement from on high:
The Oracle of the Badger state in the far regions of Michigan has the power to decree.
This is one of those edicts that it is better for you hear and obey.
When will this talk of map changes stopImage

If he was to give in to your way of thinking by disregarding social
norms and understandings there would be a revolt outbreak all over the mapImage

You (Matt & L.inRR) both are being watched Image by the Oracle & henchmen of the forum. ;)

I think we need a new region 8.
Texas, we are so big we need a region of our own.

I was born in NM and it was always called the southwest.
My Uncle was born in The Territory of New Mexico and my father was born in the State of New Mexico they were born in different counties as well and both were born in the same house.
In 1966 my father was President of the New Mexico Historical Soc. So all this stuff is stuck in my heard.

both were part of the The Territory of New Mexico and in 1912 each became a state.

If you wanted, you could do like Jefferson State
and become
The Territory of New Mexico, If Arizona was interested. But you would need to become very active in doing several gatherings a year. :D and folks from other states will come and camp with you.

I have lived in zones 5, 2, and 7 and if I could afford to I would go to Gatherings in all those zones.

Mike has simply given a general out line so he could have sites that people could go to see what gatherings were in close to them.
There is no one who says you can not cross those lines
In fact that is what we do. I spend most of my camping in jefferson State, and have camped in AZ and NM and have never seen a sign that says you are coming to Zone 5 or leaving zone 7.

I do understand the complaint about the choice of words, Locals understand about words used in their state, but people outside that state just do not know and look to General known wordage.
Here in california I hear about the Rio Grand River... the spanish hear them say River Grand River!! what you don't know you just go with the flow.
;) Hope this helps
Happy Teardropping.

I used the areas as defined in the farmers almanac. It was easy that way! :)

No one is "restricted" to any area, and these are not voting districts so just surf the other areas you are interested in and join the gatherings you like and I am sure no one will complain!
