Kayaking on Lake Shasta?

Hiya,
For a while there I wasn't sure I'd make it to the DAM, but now it’s a fer sure.
Trouble is, I'm doing a quick down and back. Norma and the Girls are staying home.

I was wondering , should I throw a kayak (or 2) on the Subie. I won't have Norma and I don't like to paddle alone.

I could bring two singles (experienced paddlers only, please!) or a double.
The singles are pretty low volume, narrow boats.
The double is a caddy. Kids could ride in front if they have a proper PFD.

I’ve never stopped at Lake Shasta, so I don’t know what would be most appropriate.

The lake is beautiful for boating/kayaking Last year TupeloSue brought hers and went out with a friend. If you bring your double you could always find someone (with or without experience) to paddle with you. If you feel like throwing on the double, include a PFD for the other person. Looking forward to seeing you again.

Going to leave Marysville around 3:00 am and try to hook up with you guys at the rest area south of Creswell by 9:00.
Is it rerally 6 more hours to Antlers? MapQuest says 4 but you never know.
I don't think I'll be up late on Thursday.

I asked the same question somewhere. 6 hours seems a lot for the distance. I did the MapQuest thing too.

MapQuest doesn't know how to factor in Teardrop Time, gawkers, rubber-neckers, and silly-question-askers time ...

You think it's bad when you're by yourself ... it's worse when you're caravanning ... ... ...! It's all part of the experience, though, and I'll bet you get a kick out of it! Probably even pick up a bit of adrenaline jazz to keep you awake!

Paul, i just saw this post...a bit too late, tho. did you bring your kayak to Shasta?? Didn't see it or anyone boating.

i didn't bring mine this year, raining when I loaded up and I just couldn't get the boat loaded easily by myself.

Had a great paddle last year. My friend michele and i went up some narrow areas and saw some HUMONGOUS fish!! we were scared they were so big! Thought they might tip our boats over or something

Hi Sue,
No I pooped out at the last minute.
It was pouring here too and I decided to go lighter. Our double is 22'6" and its knocks the mileage down a couple points.
The arm of the lake by Antlers looks like a cool place to explore tho'...
Those big fish didn't look like this did they?
