Western WA Campsites

Howdy (again),

I was thinking of planning a weekender out to Ocan Shore / Westport (western WA) area to enjoy the beach environment. Planning for March to avoid or try to if that is possible the harsher winter storms. Neah bay is a little too far for a weekend from Seattle, but open to ideas.

Looking for a nice place to just Park & Sit w/Campfire and watch the waves roll in. Reconizing the wind and salt spray etc... can be an "issue?" has anyone got a favorite spot?

and have noted a few, anyone have a preference???

Yo.......have been to Ocean Shores (or as I call it Olson Sores) many times, and while not on the list of "best in the NW" there are two RV parks available. Both as close on the beach as you can get. Unfortunately, I dont remember the names, but one is on what I call the North end of town.......down what is the entry road to OC, (past the Casino and the High School). The other is at the other far end of town at the Marina. We like the North end one cause you can walk (or stumble) into town and the restaurants/tavs/shops,etc. We love the Irish Pub on the main N/S drag.....good Irish food, Ale, and music. The south end RV spot is a "fur" piece and you must (should) drive into town. It has a restaurant at the Marina, but I dont know if it is seasonal. Both of these sites are "basic", but they do (did) have water, AC power and sewer.......along with some representation of a shower/potty building. I have not had the Tear there yet, but I do have an older GMC RV that has parked at the North site several times. Futher up North from OC (towards Moclips, or Mowgly lips) there are several RV camps and they seem to be open yearly. Many are not right on the beaches, but not far. We love the Ocean and the winter weather (although the "Princess" does much prefer one of the Hotel/Motels with an indoor pool). About a 3 hour drive from our place in Edmonds, with a usual stop in Andy-cortes and HoHoqueim..........Kites are fun, but dress warmly. The wind off the Ocean can be cold....Hot wine and or Hot choc is required. good luck........Dave S

Thanks for the info, I'll look (google maps) for the north one, that sounds like the better of the two...

Appreciate it... if you have a Drop, check out the link in my sig, we're planning a Trip-of-the-Month club... which might be fun... I'm in Ballard... so travel times are from Seattle etc...

Some boards don't apprecaite those types of posting and don't want to cause any problems. Also, the posts Trips are open for everyone, tenters, RV, Trailers, cabs and Drops... which might go against the grain of the websites you mentioned... otherwise, LOL... the more the merrier..-

Actually, we have a few trips planned in your neck of the world, Wine & Cheese, Coulee Dam, Balloon Fest etc... Just not sure what to do eh???

Hi, I had an earlier post Olympic Peninsula Trip you might want to see for photos. Kalaloch is a fantastic place to just sit and watch the ocean. There are many sites right on the bluff and most have a bit of protection from low growing vegetation. I have heard people go out there to watch the winter storms. I'm not sure if it would be further travel for you? Edmonds to Kingston? About 2 hours from Sequim. I have some friends that stopped there recently and said the campground was almost empty. Not sure if that's good or bad news, but it was sunny and they wanted to stay. Nice, clean restrooms, no showers. denise

I'll put it on the list as that is exactly what I'm looking for and now is the best time... summer too crowded eh???

Hi again, It fills up in the summer, but you can make reservations 6 months in advance through the National Park--for June-Sep 15 (I think). For reservation info see www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. There is not nearly as much available info on this Nat'l Park as there is on our State Parks. It was not full when we were there in Sep, but the oceanside spots were pretty full. The spaces are spread out nicely and there are lots of trees and shrubs, so it didn't feel crowded. It's a great beach for walking and you can collect smaller driftwood for fires. Now you have me thinking about March!! denise

Yes, I found this at the park place. Summers are a little too crowded, ferries, taffic, campsites etc.. except for the faraway spots.. guess this could be considered one of those eh??KALALOCH
and you're right, will pass on summer... sort of the "Off Season" time, Jun-Labor Day.
We want to do some trips out that way for the Weekenders, but usually hit Salt Creek or Sekiu... long drive friday night, but worth it...

Between here, TearJerkers and teardrops.net (destinations link above), I am just about tapped out for looking for gatherings. Heck even the TOW newsletter has gatherings not listed. At this point I wish for a little toe stepping so that I can plan out this year's adventures.

My wife and I have been to Ocean Shores over 11years ago and it was great. That was before the teardrop.
Depending on the weekend we would like to join you for a pre summer getaway. Maybe a few other will see this and join in.
All of our kids are in high school so they might or might not be with us.
I started looking at the Dam Gathering but with many projects we might have to skip that one.
keep us in the loop and we'll see what happens.

I'm trying to schedule someing once a month in various locations. This month was Whidby Island (North Seattle), this weekend to Skagit River to drift with the Eagles and Feb 14th over in Yakima. That might be a little closer, but maybe not.. anyway...

I will try to keep posted over here, but if you can make it over to the Wa Trailer Folks (link in my sig) that would be better as that is where the trips are set up and tracked.

Nice Drop Steve, really like the Wood working.. very nice... and see you have a shower hook up?? heheh... I'm going to be working on one this weekend... puts the old mind to work...
