I grew up in Coos Bay. It seems as though the clammers liked Horsfall Beach north of North Bend. Also, the tide flats in the Empire District were favored.

Here's a link.

:D Went a LOT as a kid with my family at our favorite clam digging beach called.....what else.....Clam Beach. Right by McKinleyville in NW Calif. I dug with the shovel, and sometimes my Dad and twin brother would use a gun. My brother is going to try to coordinate a dig this month with Dean. BTW, I don't like to eat 'em at all! My folks used to cook them up all different ways and my brother dug up some record breaking razors over the years.

 Especially not chowder...it is good looking potato soup, but can't take the texture or taste of clams. And I remember we also had to clean sand out of their lil necks. I could help grind them up, pound abalone, crack crab, but I'm the black sheep of the family when it comes to eating seafood. Those nights I got to eat cereal...and I ate a LOT of Cap'n Crunch for dinner in my younger years!
