Gatherings for next year (2013)

Postby byrdz1 » Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:41 pm

With the end of Carnation and Summer Daze (both fabulous events put on by fabulous people), we are left with a long time between events, and I thought that I would start this thread to get us thinking about times and places. Next year is also a non IRG year, my goodness what will we do?

I know that there is a group campsite at Rainbow Falls in Chehalis, it is obviously not as nice as the accomidations at Summer Daze, but it is not far from there and can be reserved. (I dont' know yet how many Rainbow Falls can hold).
http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/?selected ... ow%20Falls

On another thread Danny said something about smaller events, and that is another idea

Another possibility is to get a bunch of us together to go to the Bi-Mart Country fest (has anyone done that in their tear?)

Trask Park out of Tillimook is an interesting place - it is outside of the fog belt and while there is no covered area, it is BIG and has a big field in the middle of the park, and swimming off to the sides, the Trask is a nice river, and it is not far to the beach.

There are also a lot of interesting spots around Roseburg as well, for instance http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreat ... siteid=188
100 people, I dont' know much about it.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been thinking about options as well, after Summer Daze. In checking out the Oregon group camping, there a few places, but most of the group sites don't have much in the way of power. So knowing that's a concern for several members, we might be a little limited as far as a group site goes. But, choosing a date and having folks reserve their own sites could be pretty doable. For small groups, there might be more possibilities. I will keep researching as it is good to get the ball rolling because group sites can be reserved 9-12 months ahead.
Let's keep it going, people!

Just got back from a 6,000 mile trip back east.
We were fortunate enouhg to happen upon the UP crawl that Karl Nordstrom organized.
Unfortunately we could only spend one night with them.
What a nice bunch of people!
But, it did get me thinking about next year (2013)all the way home.
As I just love Hwy 20 across Washington State, I was thinking wouldn't it be fun to Organize a "Crawl" across the state for next Summer.
Starting from the "Mudhole Campground" just outside of Sandpoint and coming west to the coast or visa versa??
I am sure Karl will give us some tips on how to do this???
So What do you think?
Anyone interested?
I am really new to this teardrop camping thing, but worked as a Recreation Director for 25 plus years and have chaired a number of Street Rod "Rod Runs" & Vintage Car Club events . So the organization of such an event does not scare me.
As I have just retired, I would bre willing to organize or assist with the organization or co-ordnation of such an event.
Lets hear what you Northwest Forum members have to say.
Should have maybe posted this in General Dicussion, but don't know how to link it.

I think this is a great place for this discussion and it was why I started it so thank you! Does a crawl mean driving every day? As in packing up and moving? Part of me would love to spend some time seeing the sights, part of me goes weak thinking about setting up every day. I would like to hear more about crawling. :vroom: :vroom:

From what we gathered from our visit with the UP Crawl, was that they would stay a couple of days at each campsite they visited.
And took out trips to explore the sites and attractions of that particular area.
We look forward to teardrop camping because of the ease of set up and pack up????
We are used to camping in a tent, setting up late in the evening and packing up the next morning as we are usually on the move all the time.
But by all means, the more relaxing the better. And depending on the campinig facility and what the local area has to offer would play abig part in how long we could stay at each stop.

Snow has come so close today we can see it frome every window in the house.
Miss Piggy is still not finished, so plans are being made for 2013!
New Grandchild coming April 25-28th may throw a monkey wrench into our plans to attend the 20th Dam Gathering.
I was so looking forward to it as the grand debut for our new tear.
We are committed to the "Blossom Run" May 17-20th.
The Ocean Shores deal in July looks inviteing.
And I am bound and bent to get Northwest Teardroppers sold on a "Gathering" in Winthrop Wa. sometime in September.
The Gorge??????
We are game for Conconully anytime!
Mudhole has great possibilities for a meet with our Idaho neighbours.
Lets co-ordinate from here.

Vedette - Are you on the mailing list for the TOWLine newsletter? If not, you can send an email to [email protected] and we will add you. There is a list of events and rumors in the newsletter, and as the season nears there will be more events and fewer rumors.. well I hope anyway

Hi Vedette,
Have you had any interest in the Crawl across the Cascades? We are from Colville WA, and would love to host a night or two in our area. We haven't been on a Crawl but it sounds like fun. My all time favorite campsite is north of Concrete at Shannon or Baker Lake. We've also enjoyed camping in the Winthop area and snowmobiled the Conconully area. We keep talking about camping there. Please let us know if you have plans!
