Winter Camp Details: I can think of no better way to set the stage for a good year than a little winter camping. Come and relax, take your mind off politics for one weekend, share some great camp cooking around a warm campfire and breathe. You'll have a better year for the effort.

We were a little worried about the road into Leslie Gulch this year so we picked a spot with paved roads and no washboard. The Idaho Power campground at the dam has the added benefit of heated restrooms.

All are welcome. Any type rig including but not limited to teardrops, tents, motorhomes, big or small, bring um all. I hear the fishin' has been great for perch and trout so if you are into that come on.

North Camp or Scout Camp, both are at the dam on C J Strike reservoir between Grand View and Bruneau Idaho. We'll have our choice of campgrounds. North, at the top of the dam costs $8.00 per night. The other is Scout, right at the base of the dam and it is $5.00 per night. Both have a $1.00 discount for 60 and over. The advantage to North is the morning sun and you can't hear the whine of the turbines.

This area is rich with history and just plain coolness. The Bruneau Sand Dunes are close by. The town of Murphy has a couple of points of interest. First, the only parking meter in the whole county. It's one meter in front of the Courthouse. There are about a zillion acres you can park for free but if you want the one spot right up front there is a meter. Probably a story there. Murphy also has a great museum including Native American, Gold and Silver Mining, Early Cowboy and Ranch plus great Ghost Town maps and books.

Close to Murphy are the Wees Bar Petroglyphs. A little hard to get to but well worth the effort.

Loren, It's going to be great weather. I think my wife is even going for it this year. There are several couples who are not on this board planning to join. It's going to be fun. And remember, the restrooms are heated with flush toilets and warm seats. Please come join us.

Now that we've gotten to the seat of the problem how about some more people committing to this gathering. I've got it on very good authority that we will have some fantastic weather for the event. And just in case, I'll bring plenty of firewood.

Trip report:
Bruneau sand dunes were all closed- power still on to the RV sites but water off and only one pit toilet at each area is open. It was windy and generally nasty.
CJ Strike no power but as advertised the bathrooms are indeed heated with hot and cold water. Flush toilets even. The wind coming off the reservoir was cold on the upstream side of the dam. I think that the downstream campsite is better- more sheltered. The view is not as good and the turbines are audible but not al all intrusive.
We are planning on being there.

Loren, I'm looking forward to seeing you again. This time my more civilized half will be with us. David and Tracy are planning on bringing their telescope. Should be lots to see in the night sky.
