Brad.

I am not going to the burn this year. Just to expensive for me. BUT I do plan on the Element 11 burn in Northern Utah. Much more affordable for me. And can make the round trip on less than a tank of gas. If I go straight over 2 mountain ranges.

You could probably camp at my place if you wish. Do not expect hot showers though. I do have lawns, trees, external power, nearest neighbor is not that near and lots of cats.

I don't know, Wolfgang. :? I'm coming from central Texas by way of SE Oklahoma, Louisville, Ky and other points NE of there, then headed your way. I'll be mostly camping along the way, so y'all will be able to smell me coming if the wind's right (or wrong).

City of Rocks, ID? Ah, found it on Google Earth. Looks like a popular scenic spot. Quite a few vehicles there, in the aerials. Are you coming that way? We could meet up. I honestly hadn't planned that far ahead. Just going where the wind blows me.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

City of Rocks is very very popular during the climbing season. Need to get a reservation months in advance. I go up there in the off season.

Been thinking of a camp out there in Oct.

Some hikes in the area we are going. I have been on some of these. But these days a hike for me has to be less than 1/8 mile. And lava hiking is rough. Will surprise a person.

Since it would be camping on a Wednesday night, I think we have a chance.
All of the camping is stretched out along the main dirt road over 2 or 3 miles
From City of Rocks its about 75 miles to the jumping off point.
So it would make for an easy Thursday commute to work.... I mean starting point

City of Rocks is pretty busy from the climbers from early May to October. I once talked to the the the people that run it and they did not seem to mind if two vehicles and their trailers share a sight as long as they did not stick out in the road or parked outside of the parking area. But that was years ago.

According to Reserve America, there are a lot of sites available for Wed, May 18. Try this link: http://idahostateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/map_of_City_Of_Rock_National_Reserve/r/campgroundMap.do?page=map&search=site&contractCode=ID&parkId=315044.

campsite map (pdf): http://www.nps.gov/ciro/index.htm#modal-park-map, then click "View Park Map" button on the left.

Check it out on Google earth. There are a few sites that might hold 2 tears. # 22 looks like the prime pick to me. We'll probably need to talk to a real person to double up.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

If I remember correctly #12 is pretty good size. I have used #12#14 and #19. 19 is way to small. #14 is kind of medium.

Good grief. $10.60 to reserve a site. I think some one is making out like a bandit.

On the brochure where the rates are listed it does say, Up to 8 people, 2 vehicles and 2 tents per sight. When I talked to the staff about teardrops they seemed to not worry as long as nothing stuck out in the way. That was back about 2012.
