Well, I can't argue about the priority of that.

I've been fascinated with it for fifty years. I recall being in a botany lab a million years ago and the instructor asked if anyone had ever seen a fern in a desert. I raised my hand. He said I was wrong but I wasn't––they grow in the lava crevices.

I'd buzz on down, but the timing is off.

That's Big Southern Butte. (No, there shouldn't be any white stuff on this adventure.) Back in the early seventies, while working as a summer-time firefighter, I'd haul water to the lookout that's on top. I hope you-all get a chance to drive to the summit. It's a view.

The Indians poked around out there for 14,000 years. Think about that while you're cooking dinner out there. Tough isn't a strong enough word.

Kudos for Randy for organizing this thing and snapping the lead rein. :pictures:

That is a great picture of the Big South. The lookout is gone now but still an aw inspiring view. You have to see it to believe it. Hope we can get up there. There could still be snow and or mud

Been going to mention it would probably be a great place for a mountain bike out there.

I'm a little too out of shape, but I'll be glad to be the lifeguard.

WE will be heading into a part of the country that few people see. And most of those are local people or those that work out there. Sheep men, BLM people. It just does not draw people that are not local.

What time of day are we meeting at the water tower in Kimama on Thursday May 19th?

I'm still hoping I can work this out. Looking OK so far.

I am planning around noon. Give or take.

Drive for a bit and stop for some lunch or what ever then drive a bit making a few stops. Hope to get to first night camp around 6-7pm.

That is my plan, such as it is .

Hope you can make it. Anybody else over there interested?

Well. Things got a little exciting at Kimama late this morning.

Truck wreck

We was working a few miles south of Kimama and finish the job and was moving to the next. Two of our trucks got on the road before me and the last one right behind me. They was a bout 3-4 minutes ahead of me. About 1 mile east of Kimama I came upon the wreck. Not one of ours. Fist time I been first on the scene. driver looked in bad shape and other than moving a leg and a hand did not move. Oh at that time he had gotten himself out of the truck and was laying on the spilled spud seed. He may have been thrown partially out the windshield. Was uncommunicative.

Ya all be careful out there.

Just look for the big arrow on the right.

At least, that's where I was going.

We're hoping, too. A foursome is a pretty good number.

As much as I was hoping to make this trip am going to have to pass for now.

Got married last Monday and am going to have to combine two households from two different states by the end of May.

Sounds like you have a pretty good reason to miss the expedition.

If this works out stay tuned for 2017. What I am planning might need to have some strong younger muscle. Any of that in your family?

8)

Do not say I did not warn you in time to run away.
