Hello Folks...
Its become a regular thing for my wife Joanne and I (Eric), in fact we now take our vacation time in late fall. This was our 5th trip up Highway 1, beginning in San Diego. I really don't thing I could get tired of it, however, it is from a guy who is quite romantic about teardrop camping! It must be contagious, I have company every time.

Highway 1 was our main plan. 2nd plan was no reservations (except a nice hotel in Capitol Hill, Seattle for 2 nights). It rained, it blew and it sunned, all of it just fine with enough creature comforts to not feel like we were roughing it. In fact, when I got back, my friend Jorge said I was "gordo". The 3rd goal of the trip!
One night was quite wet, if a Redwood is 30 ft away you are still under it. Even though its drier when the rain starts (good time to cook), the drips continue all night hours beyond the rainfall. At the first set of pictures, it was at Samuel P Taylor SP. We found a wild apple tree down by the river and acted like Huck Finn... stuffed our cheeks with the sweetest apples I've had in years! Usually I stalk the river to see the fish.... not so that day.

When you can, visit Ocean Cove in Nor Cal Coastal area... it is a private RV/tent campground (see pictures 4/5). We initiated our new ARB side room and solar Road Shower. At 60 years old, I feel it is quite sensational to take an outdoor shower! The water was about 92 degrees on that mostly sunny day.
I took a walk along the shore at Westport SP, nice volcanic rock formations. See the picture with the blue rag on the fender... we had a grey fox visit us at midnight. Beautiful animal. That bull elk was from Elk Prairie SP. As you recognize, a few days in Seattle with some family members (wedding event). Then Mt Shasta got a fresh blanket as we meandered back home.
Most of our neighbors during the trip were from Europe! Groups on bicycles, touring motorcycles (like starting in Alaska and going to Peru!), using RV rentals. We met Italians, Germans, English, Scandinavians, Slovak's, Russians.... proves America the Beautiful.

I agree - I have never tired of it, ever since my first drive of it in 1972 a day after graduating from HS when I drove south to SD via I-5 than returned by way of 1/101 all the way back to Wash.(sleeping in the back of my 65 GTO) have done the drive many a time since (to include the 70 GTO) along with 2 trips by bicycle (85/91) and now towing the teardrop a few times to the IRG and than some futher south after - it's still a GREAT trip!!!! (even at 62 now!!)

Brian, I've been working on the Idaho part of this idea. How many miles and how many days would seem appropriate for 2017 Fall Crawl?
