I have a big trip at the end of May. Might be able to do a mid-late June run.

Walk the Winds is July 11-14, and CRA is the following weekend. I'm planning on both. Other than those two, I'm open. :D
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

I hope we can do something around the May 10th festivities at Golden Spike. Also hoping to go to Walk the Winds in July.

Okay, May 10th at Golden Spike, we will figure out the rest of it then. Roads will probably be okay, weather can be iffy that time of year. Captain Telescope knows about that. Will be a good 2 days to Lucin Utah. If you can get hold of Nothing Like it in the World by Stephen Ambrose is a good read to become familiar with what we will see out there.

Bring shovels and towing equipment. Maybe a set of ATV ramps, or something like that in case we have to do some bridging. I do not have any, at this time. Does anybody?

Lets go

Ok. some more info......

May 10th is the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike ceremony.
If the plan is to get into that portion of the park, their is a car fee of $20 for that Friday.
Looks like a punch of stuff is planned for the weekend.

The public is welcome and encouraged to join us for the Sesquicentennial Celebration at Promontory Summit. However, space is limited as we expect to celebrate with more than 10,000 visitors on May 10th. In order to facilitate parking adjacent to the site and help offset the costs of programming, we are offering tickets to the public. We have tried to make the tickets as affordable as possible to ensure everyone can attend.

Tickets are available online at http://www.spike150.org/events/. Attendees must purchase a parking ticket in advance of the event.

I was there in 2009 for the 140th anniversary which fell on Mother's Day Sunday. There was a crowd but no fees. I did not think the crowd would be to much larger this year. Or they have figured out a way to wring more money out of people. And I really hate having to buy tickets online in advance. To me that means the prices are jacked up even more. ( grumble grumble )

For me I can live just fine without all the speech-a-fying. Another day will still be the engines ( unless it is boiler wash out day )

Saturday and Sunday it is $10/vehicle.

Go to your mapping what evers. Put in Locomotive springs Utah, to Golden Spike.

I am thinking about camping at Locomotive Springs Friday. going to Golden spike on the rail bed Saturday Morning ( I have done this. Once ) Leave there just after noon go back and break camp and head west for a few hours. Camp Saturday night and we might make it to Lucin Utah on Sunday or Monday.

There is a very good road between Snowville and Locomotive springs, at least the one time I drove it all the way. We can meet up in Snowville and fuel up and head out.

Thoughts?

Good map. shows BLM land that we can camp on and worry about someones property. I think they grossly underestimated the time to drive the whole route. Or maybe I do to much lollygagging.

Looks to me we can camp Friday night some where around Elinor-Kelton. Then Saturday morning head to Golden spike in 1-2 vehicles for a few hours then mad dash back to camp and head west to camp around Matlin-Terrace.

But who knows what will happen when the boots hit the gournd.

Oh almost forgot.

Artificial is okay. You will understand.

I think we can do it in two days.

Or how about yet another change in plans? Meet in Snowville afternoon of the 9. Set up camp around Locomotive Springs and those that want to see the big shindig on the 10th can go and spend some quality time there. Then we can head out for a few hours Friday if you get back in time or leave Saturday morning and have 2 full days to do it. Should be able to drive it all and do some looking around.

I volunteer to stay at the camp and watch it when people go to the Headquarters. I have seen the engines before and a fairly good bunch of re-inactors.

Probably need to get at least 2 vehicle passes.

What day is the reenactment 10th or 11th? I thought we were meeting the 10th, attending the reenactment the 11th and heading out after we got back.
