Halloween campout

Hi Jim. I hope this will be posted on the teardrop site, but if not:

Spooktacular Catalina State Park Campout October 22- 25 2009.

We have the group sites starting at noon on Thursday and will be there decorating the site if any early birds want to show up. Our schedule is:

Friday- 4:30 meet and greet with BYO drinks and munchies. Children may get in their costumes and go Trick or Treating before sundown - please plan on having the kids pose for a group shot. Dinner is on your own. We will have a campfire with spooky stories when the children are safely out of their costumes (fire hazard).

Saturday: pancake breakfast at 8. Trailer tours at 9:30 – bring a camera with you. The afternoon is free to hike, bike, or kick back. A Pot luck dinner is at 5 followed by a campfire and mulled cider. Raffle tickets will be given to all trailers that are decorated for Halloween- the drawing will be at dinner.

Sunday: bring your breakfast to the group area and be social. We have the park until noon, you can rent horses or simply visit until its time to head out.

We will put the trailers in the small group area where just about every trailer can have a tree and the distance from trailer to trailer will be small enough to encourage visiting. The large group area will be where we can park our cars after we unhitch and unload. The enormous gravel area in the rear of that will be for kids to fly kites or ride bikes- that will keep the noise and dust away from the trailers. The large covered overhang will be for kids to play on the tables and for pumpkin carving, and the fenced area will be for horseshoe games etc. People who have stuff to sell can set up on a table over there as well.

The small group area will have the evening fire, and the covered area will have table cloths and only be for a cocktail hour, eating, and general socializing. Thanks to a generous cash donation by Jerry Schumaker, we will have tablecloths for every table this year J I also have black enamel metal charger plates to support paper plates (great idea, Lois) and plenty of black enamel mugs for hot mulled cider.

The small group area is closer to the bathrooms and closer to the wash station- both should be welcome by all. We can easily fit 25 trailers in there. The small group area also has a huge fenced wooded area- we should be able to fit teardrops in there where they can enjoy a canopy of shade. WARNING: although the days are warm, the nights are cold. Be sure to bring a propane heater for nights and watch for snakes in the daytime.

While in the small group area, kids will be expected to use "indoor voices". I hope to have the weekend be kid friendly and also be a place where adults can enjoy a little peace and quiet.

We will follow Jerry’s suggestion from last year and have a group breakfast on Saturday morning instead of the usual Sunday farewell one. This way our trailers are free from cooking odors and we are free from clean up and we can have our trailer tours without stress. All trailers that decorate for the season will be in a drawing for some nice prizes.

The potluck Saturday night should feature foods with a fun theme (email for any recipe), Please feel free to add your own – I will provide “place cards” to label your dishes- half the fun is the name!!

Eyeball Highball (adults only)
