Star-Party in CA Desert

Postby alffink » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:55 am

For those that enjoy camping in the desert and enjoy star-gazing.
There is going to be a great opportunity, this weekend March 12-14
The camping is free, on Saturday, there will be a great diner (Tri-tip sanwiches) provided by the Riverside Astronomical Society, trimmings, side dishes, deserts are pot-luck. This is the clubs annual Messier Marathon, at this time of the year, it is (possible) to view all 110 objects cataloged by Charles Messier in the 1700's, these are some of the biggest and brightest objects that we can see in the sky.
Location; GMARS, dark-sky site for the RAS in Landers CA. this about 12miles north of Yucca Valley.
weather looks as though it will clear days and clear nights, daytime highs in the mid 60's night time lows in the 30's, bring appropriate clothes for standing around a telescope in these cool temps for an extended period of time.
You will not need a telescope to enjoy a great evening under the stars.
There are no hook ups for our trailers, but we have a club house on site with flush toilets, hot water and a full kitchen.
Sorry to say, I will probably not be camping, I will have two young ladies with me and it does not seem quite appropriate, but I will be there with my tear on Saturday, shortly after lunch.

Thanks for posting the info. Unfortunately my trailer is going through a repair. I hope to visit one of the star parties in the future.
Why just dance, when you can Salsa!
