32 days to go
Pulled out all my camping stuff to see what needed replacing, fixing, lighting, or could fit in smaller containers for ezyer packing.
At IRG there is only pit restrooms... so come prepaired with your favorite air cleaner, you can buy toilet seat covers in small boxes at camping store, There are showers in the next camp ground to the east.
http://koa.com/
So far I have found clean with good showers many have been revamped to take trailers and tents offering restrooms and showers.
I would recommend
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1029
very good park with showers. fills up very fast I went there last July for my birthday and it was full mid july.
http://www.slocountyparks.com/activities/camp.htm
Lopez huge on a lake. Santa Margarita Lake out of the way nice lake more out of your way but nice area camping on park. better then KOA just outside the gate. Oceano will be full, El Charro I have stayed out it is simple but my be full at that time do to the http://ccrenfaire.com/ at the park below it.
In July this county fills with tourists camping and other so if you want to stay here it is best to reserve now.

We Reserved at a KOA on the way up so we could get a hot shower. On Wed we will be at the Salinas/Monterey in Prundale and then driving straight up.
Place to stay on your way up in my area are
This is a new KOA
http://koa.com/campgrounds/avila/
this one fills up fast if you want to stay here do it now.
KOA in Santa Margareta is quiet and out of the way but just a dirt lot and a pool when last seen 2 yrs ago. way out of the way.

KOA's above my area
https://koa.com/campgrounds/santa-cruz/reserve/
is listed in the book as RV only but they now have showers and take smaller trailers. seem to have openings.
http://koa.com/campgrounds/san-francisco/
by 101 near Petaluma has opening at this time.
has openings I want to stay there one day.... however I have many friends in area I can stay with.
http://koa.com/campgrounds/willits/
if you think you will run out of steam or don't like driving in the dark you might want to reserv. here but you are only a short drive from IRG from there. on hwy 36 look for the balloons it is that small of a target and you might over shoot it. The sign is a 1 foot by 2 foot about. and sits 2 feet of the ground.
The gate stays locked and out of site from the road.

that all for now have to go to work ...
Ron
maybe others can give info on they''re are of Calf camping wise. etc.

It's not a site, but a great place and it's right on the way for anyone coming from the South on I-5. Stop at Granzellas in Williams, it's the exit before the turnoff for Hwy 20. If you're coming from the north, go past the 20 exit. No problem to get back on 20...just go through town. You'll see the billboards in time. Awesome deli sandwiches and a full restaurant, fantastic bread made daily, and a large assortment of their own name brand olives and gourmet snacks. It's always a MUST for me anytime I go to the IRG or up to the Dam. The Deli mix olives with pepperocini's/garlic are my favorite. Large parking lot across the street. It's a very well known establishment. It may seem crowded at lunch time, but the staff really hustles! Doug

Our nickname for it is Godzillas!

And if you're in the mood for some authentic Mexican food... The little Mexican joint on the corner right by Granzellas makes awesome Tacos de Lengua. :R

I shot somewhere around 200 shots at the 2010 IRG so let me share some with you as we move along.
