boondocking near Monteray Ca.

Postby joe duncan » Tue Jul 05, 2016 12:02 pm

Does any one out there know of a good place to camp in our teardrop near Monteray Ca. We would prefer to boondock if at all possible. We will be spending most of our time in the area around Monteray itself . Any imput would be helpful. We are planing on being in the area either the middle of July or the middle of August depending on how a few other matters fall into place.
THANKS Joe :D 8)

I've been to Monterey more than a few times but not camping. I'd imagine finding any boondocking immediately nearby will be difficult. There are some 'city' campgrounds.

Somewhat near there though, just south along the 1, is Big Sur. Gorgeous place. There could very well be some dispersed camping areas in the mountains there. There are a handful of campgrounds.

Laguna Seca and Big Sur are nice, probably full but the county parks were 'no reservations' prior to 7 days which meant they were not taken 6 months before, that made it nice for last minute trips for us. They were talking about the old Fort Ord base opening up but not sure how far along they are with live ammo removal - fond memories the hand grenade range in basic training.

BUT make sure you go to 'The Old Monterey Café' for at least one breakfast, best food ever.

See you guys at Hermit Valley.
