I don't have to try it....YES get a waffle iron! That is Genius! YUMM! Why didn't you post this yesterday when I used my Cinnamon Rolls over apple pie filling? (It is posted in the recipe section). I will try this for sure, but the iron will need to be seasoned real good or there could be some extra cleaning.

Ok, so who is going to just combine the two and make apple cinnamon roll waffles. Maybe I'll have to try that. Oh, and by all means, get a waffle iron. 8)

I'll keep my eyes open but it will have to be cheap. Unfortunately used cast iron has been elevated to silver prices in my area. I must admit that these two dishes have me salivating.

Cabelas has one for $20 if your not hooked on vintage iron. Click on the 5th small picture under the large pie iron for a picture of the waffle iron.

That's a hard to beat price. Debating between that and the $18 camp Dutch oven from tractor supply. http://www.tractorsupply.com/cast-iron-dutch-oven-6-qt--3770303

We've been essentially doing this for years now on family camping trips with Pie Irons in the fire. It's a pretty easy recipe

- Preheat the pie iron in the camp fire
- Open up and butter both halves well. We use Parkay Squeeze "butter" it's quick easy and probably the safest option around a hot iron
- Drop two cinnamon rolls into one side of the iron then close it up
- Cook in the fire a few minutes per side checking often until golden brown on both sides
- Remove from the fire and let sit for a few minutes in the iron
- Open up the pie iron and flip your cinnamon rolls out onto a plate
- Apply some frosting and enjoy

These are one of the best and easiest camping treats we've come across. We have made all sorts of things in pie irons including brownies, biscuits, pizza, pies, you name it and these are still one of my favorites.

I was debating whether I wanted to invest in a pie iron. You just made up my mind for me!!

Thanks for all the great ideas.

I'd highly recommend going for the real cast iron ones made by Rome. They are definitely the best cooking ones I've used. Romes aluminum ones also work fairly well. The cheaper imitations made by coleman and others I've found to be too thin and are very good at burning your food and not cooking evenly.

Great idea. Went camping last weekend and took along the cast iron waffle maker to try this. Sprayed a bit of no-name cooking oil into the hot iron and dropped the cinnamon rolls in (4 at a time). Couple of minutes rotating over the propane burner and the kids were on them like crazy. Had to make them the next day too! Quick, simple and delish.

I know of people that have been doing them in Waffle dog irons as well. Anytime you can cook up a cinnamon roll when camping, no matter how you do it....it's just the best! Doug

Yes, I can attest that canned cinnamon rolls make great waffles. Yum! :D

On this website, they show the failures first; but, scroll down and you'll see that they made both great waffle-ized cinnamon rolls, hash browns, and they even made a pizza!

I like the hash brown idea...no need to turn the spuds!
