tear drop or green egg

I can't leave home with out both of them . I got the green egg about 3 weeks before I bought the tear drop. Its too big to take with me .. the food on the green egg I is so good and I'm not a good cook. i think ever camping place needs to supply them..

It's a closed barbecue thingie that looks like a giant avocado....makes terrific roasts.

I'm facing the same dilemma. It's so bad I'm thinking about buying a big steel keg (same theory) that plugs into a trailer hitch receiver just to take camping....

I brought the Lg to IRG a while back, I have pics but I can't find them, I BBQd a brisket for the potluck. I made an adapter for my DigiQ so that I can run it off my riding mower battery. The Lg is a bit cumbersome to bring (anywhere) so we got the Med for camping. It's still awkward, but manageable.

Here is the fleet: I figure I'll get a Sm and Mini eventually, just to complete the collection.

Smalls are too small. Can't fit a whole chicken . A guy on YouTube did a mod on his so he could, but if I can't do a brisket or butt it doesn't do much good.

Love my egg, but it does have se limitations. Portability being the worst

Depends what you want to cook...and for how long.

I did a thick porterhouse tonight...550 degrees for about 3 minutes on each side...perfect medium rare.

Kamodo cookers ROCK....Low and slow or hot and fast. Very versatile. And I still have charcoal left for tomorrow...and the day after...

Barrel smokers are fine (UDS), but all they can do is smoke. I was listening to the guy at Costco giving his speil on the Trager (pellet pooper). He was talking about grilling on it, but I seriously doubt that it can get to temps high enough for a decent sear. The beauty of an egg (or any Kamado cooker) is that you can smoke low-n-slow and sear at high temps. Though I haven't done it, folks bake in it. Pizzas are popular because you can get it up to high temps, and the dome mimic a brick oven.

My wife is very disturbed to see this thread. I've been lusting after a BGE or a Primo kamado cooker for about a year or so. My brother has a BGE, and even though he can't cook generally, he cranks out amazing briskest, turkeys, pork butts, ribs, etc. on his BGE.
