WWII Bomber jacket

Postby Nitetimes » Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:59 pm

I thought I'd ask here if anyone was interested before I put this on ebay. It's a WWII B-3 Bomber jacket that saw service in the European theater during the war.
It is in very good condition considering it's age.
I am going to be starting it at about $1400 but I'll let it go for $1200 plus shipping if someone here would like to have one.

No such luck. It has the Army Air Forces insignia on the left shoulder but that's it.
I'll get some more pics if anyone is interested. The manufacturers tag is in it.
It's not perfect but it is much better than the ones listed on ebay right now.

Rich, check with Doug. I remember him posting something about his mom getting rid of one. Maybe he only wanted it because it was his dads.

I think that's probably what it was.
I'm not really trying to push it on anyone in particular, I just remember there was some interest in this type of stuff.
Just a friendly offer, but thanks for the suggestion, I did forget about that.
You have to be a pretty serious collector to by something like this. :) :)

Beautiful Jacket Rich. I'm sure you'll get what you are asking for it, no problem. Many many collectors of such items out there.

Any stories with the jacket?

Not that I'm aware of, all I know for sure is the fellow was in Europe. Not even sure which planes he was in. I'm afraid most of that went with him, he wasn't a real friendly guy from what I understand. It's a shame, cause it's always cool to hear some of the stories behind these old jackets.

Believe it or not this jacket nearly went to Goodwill or worse yet in the garbage. I got there just in time to save it. Would have been a horrible death for it after surviving the war so well.

My dad has a pair of pants that match that jacket. Used to use them ice fishing. I remember wearing them once when I was younger, and they were definatly warm.

We just got back from a WWII reunion in Portland, OR last week. My dad belongs to a group made up of former members of the 16th Armored Division. Sadly, their numbers are dwindling as the members are all getting up in their 80's.

Some WWII collectors brought a Jeep and 1/2 ton truck to display at the reunion, as well as many smaller items, including uniforms. On Saturday, a guy stopped by with a WWII tank (he was on his way to a military display at the state fair). Unfortunatly I was out sightseeing when he came buy, but my dad said that he even fired it up for the guys, and spent about an hour and a half showing it to them. They really got a kick out of seeing it.
