Teardropping in Ontario

Hi all!

Just discovered this forum... excellent!

Guess I'm currently one of a few teardroppers in Ontario. My wife and I will be camping a LOT this summer, Niagara Falls actually mid May, as well as Algonguin, Bon Echo, Sharbot Lake and Sandbanks this summer.

Be glad to meet up with any other teardroppers in the neighbourhood, or those just interested in them.

Will we also be 'gathering' at least 4 times at Fish Creek Ponds in upstate NY.

Cheers!

Dave,

Feel free to also add your teardrop events to the calendar. Anyone can add events, and I've just added Ontario as a category! :)

Mike...

Well I wouldn't call them 'events'... just me and my wife camping all over the place. I will post some camp dates however here for anyone else in the neighbourhood.

We have been Tear Dropping since 1996 and in 2003 We dragged it 37,500 miles while we did all of the Street rod nationals. It is a wonderful way to travel. Wednesday I leave for Louisville Kentucky for the Nationals with it. Last year we tried a motorhome and did not like it all that mutch. It is up for sale. This year we bought a new Escape trailer in Chilliwac BC and like it very much. I still love teardropping and hope more people get to try it and see how great it is. If I can figure out how, I'll post a picture of the unit.

Hi there Fred!

St Thomas huh? My wifes son lives there and we visit several times a year. We've even been to St Thomas with the teardrop once or twice!

Look forward to seeing your picture of it.

Hi Huche,

Going to be teardropping in the winter up here? Brave! Are you going to be travelling with it or using it for ice fishing or just plain winter camping getaways?

Hi Dave,

I Hope to use it as a small and cozy Ski chalet for my ski and snowboard adventures in Quebec and Vermont. I'm thinking of heating with a 12,000 btu propane furnace but I'm still not 100% on what I really need to get the job done. I don't plan on using it for ice fishing, but I bet that would be a great Idea, I have a cottage on clayton lake and It is usually pretty full of ice shacks. I'm not much of a fisherman though :) I am getting the trailer frame this weekend so I will start posting pictures of the progress. I'll probally forgo the kitchen galley as I doubt anyone will fancy standing outside in January to cook breakfast :o

What design are you using huche? Purchased plans or your own?

I love the pictures, they have me excited and scared all at the same time.
The design will be an almagamation of ideas from T&TTT members and of my own. I have an impossible list of features that I want/need to incorporate into the design. I have resisted attempts to post the requirements on the forum cause I see how unrealistic they may be :( . However just for fun I'll list them off.

1. The trailer will be towed with an Acura 1.7 EL (= to a Honda Civic), which means I need it light as possible (I do have a manual trans. and four wheel disk brakes so that should help with towing)
2. I need a spot for 4 adults to sleep. (That's the deal breaker I think, however I am fairly young (23) so I think sardining may be more acceptable)
3. HEAT  and lots of it, which means lots of insulation and one super duper propane heating system.
4. A place to dry clothes and store gear (boots, mits ect...)
5. A nice little table that fits 4.

and that's it, is that too much to ask? I think not with the right prayer :worship: by the way I spent WAY to long looking at your site last night, really fun and well designed, kept me up till sunrise.
Mike

Hey Mike,

A 4 sleeper huh? Now thats a challenge! You need to design something like the new Camp-Inn Raindrop, see http://tinycamper.com/topsecret

As an avid skier, the though of 4 adult skiers living in a teardrop is fun and major challenge!! It'll need to be larger than a regular teardrop so weight will be the issue with the Acura. 3 in a 5ft wide tear might be doable... one in a bunk? And stowing ski equipment/clothing for 4 adults.. wow!

Hope you don't plan on navigating some of the mtn passes in VT, NY or NH!

Better add a shower, especially after a day of spring skiing!

Will be watching your progress with mucho interest!

Can we expect to see your teardrop at Tuckerman Ravine next spring???

On the plus side.. if the other 3 adults are women... well this might all work out just fine! :o

Gosh darn it. I'll have to make my next project a sleeper. My TTT is just a galley/head/storage, designed for tenting (getting closer to finished). No ski trips for this one. Oh, and I live in Niagara Falls. Oh, and sorry I missed you last month ADK.

Cheers,
John

Fred. are you still in St Thomas and do you still have your TD? I would love to see it in person if I could. I am planning to build one for my solo photography trips.
