GlamperGirl & MountainBiker have made the trek North

Hi to all ... just catching up. MountainBiker and I have made the big move to northern Ontario. Andy lost his job in July and we thought we should think about where we really want to be for the next few years. As some of you know, we've been discussing selling up in the city (Burlington) and moving to Muskoka. We put the house up for sale at the end of August. Thirteen days later we sold it. On November 5th we took possession of a nice little house in the country (4 acres with a small spring fed pond) about 10 minutes north of Bracebridge. Whew! What a summer and fall! I am still working in Burlington staying with family through the week and making the trek north for weekends. Trying to transfer up to a Home Depot but so far no luck. Andy is at the house with the pets full time and starting a job search up there. At least now we will be closer to the prov parks we love and hopefully will get to spend time in Algonquin.

Anyone thinking of a spring get-together yet?

Maureen

Hi Maureen.
Wow, big news. Hope you guy's are settling in ok. Good luck to Andy on the job search.
There is a Tear Jerker sanctioned get together at Emily Provincial Park May 23-25 next year...(but you didn't hear that from me). Bookings can't be made yet, but the info is on the tearjerker site.
All the best for the holidays, and hope to see you guys out next year.

Sandy

It sounds like you folks are doing what I want to do, only you are doing so with a little push. I hope Andy finds work soon.

Perhaps you can talk a little about the process? I would love...make that LOVE to sell my 1/4 acre postage stamp with a cookie cutter home on it, and move to 10ac off the beaten path... Small home, big barn....1200 square with something like a 5 car, or 2 car and a lockable pole barn to build the workshop would make me giddy...

The thought of an acre of fruit trees and area needed to grow maters, root veggies, squash and other veggies would be my dream and probably nightmare :)

Feb 1: So, I have gotten a transfer for work up to the Huntsville Home Depot. I started there last week.
I am back to working a night shift but at least it is a foot in the door and a full time job.
And no more 2 1/2 hr commutes to come home for the weekend!

Here are some pictures:

The view from the road back in September when we were still looking at the property.

And a similar view the day after Christmas.

The view from the laneway in to the garage back in September.

And the same laneway after Christmas ... there is now a crazy amount of snow - even for Muskoka!
As of today, we are down to a single track laneway with snowbanks close to 5 ft.
It is absolutely gorgeous.

And me trying out my old-style snow shoes.

Thanks for all the good wishes. We hope to see some of you this spring/summer.

Hey Jawbone, good to hear from you.
Yes, we figure if we can get through this winter we will know we can make it through just about anything ... except the black flies???!!

There is a fine art of pulling down the snow off of the roof of the house with a roof rake while wearing snowshoes so that you can trek out across the mounds of snow around the house. I am becoming quite adept at this somewhat precarious ballet in my old style beaver tail snowshoes!

Hmmmmm??? Tap Dancing in Snowshoes?????? That has to be in the Olympics!!!! :applause: :o
I like to see the pics from the different seasons - I have taken pics of my place at least once a month from the exact same spot and have put them together on one huge frame.

:D Gorgeous views and house, Maureen!! Nice that you two made the move and job situation seems to be leveling out.
If you are up for a SUMMER outing in the redwoods, we invite you to the IRG (International Teardrop Gathering) held this July in Northern California. You'd definitely be part of the International....
