Door Advice Before Purchase

Postby Strop » Thu Oct 23, 2014 1:58 am

Hi all,

I am about to pull the trigger and buy a set of Little Guy Replacement doors and have them shipped to Australia. By the time I buy some good windows and door handles etc it is almost the same cost of have the doors shipped here. So.............

Anything I should know about their doors before I empty the wallet?

Thanks

Laurie

Check with Frank Bear and see how his prices match up.
And don't bother using stainless steel screws, use plain or zinc-coated steel (#8-3/4" is what my door used) and pre-drill the door (7/64" for a #8 IIRC). Breaking screws sucks and causes a huge mess.

I've been looking into doing the same thing.
There's a company usatoaus Com that will ship 2 doors from little guy for 150 plus gst (gst on shipping and item) sea freight.
Your responsible for any additional costs.
Dunn and watson in Brisbane sell them for about 625 each .
I'm still trying to decide whether to make or buy mine.
Shame everyone tries to shaft you for imported goods in aussie.

Aussie Teardrop Campers sells some nice doors - http://www.aussieteardrops.com/ - at $650 each AUS, probably a bit spendy, though maybe not as much as having a pair shipped over from the States. Looking at them, they appear to be vastly superior to what LG is offering. Grist for the mill, as we say over here ... ;) ...!

I think the expanded metal is to make sure you don't poke an elbow or foot through the regular screen. But I'd worry about cutting myself on the metal, that stuff can be super sharp.

Lots of bugs Tony. Grant, I have seen the doors and believe it or not you can get two of the little guy doors shipped over here for a bit more than the price of one door delivered.

Also by the time you buy two windows here (good quality) all the trim, hinges and handles it comes to close to the same cost. I do get your message about quality though.

The only other ones I have seen over here are imported from the U.S. (Watson & Dunn) so I am expecting them to be very similar to the Little Guy doors.

Come on guys, the security screen is there so you can sleep with the door open of a night and not get eaten alive. Protects you from the flying insects and also the Dropbears. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Drop-Bear
