New Tow Vehicles for teardrops

Postby mikeschn » Thu Jan 20, 2005 2:54 pm

Hey guys,

Just got back from the auto show... How about something like this H3 as a tow vehicle for a teardrop? Hey, it even matches the Harbor Freight frame!

Image

or if you want something a little more practical, how about something like this HHR?

Image

I didn't really see much else that would be good for towing a teardrop... Well maybe the SSR, but I didn't take a picture of that!!!

How about this? Polish up your Tear Drop and you'll have a matched pair! Would be a perfect hauler for CampADK!

Details from a friend,
Ford spent $5 million developing this car, and another $2 million just building this particular one. This is the first and only one of this type in existance, and was completed yesterday afternoon in California.

In January of 2004 it was sketched out on paper. In February a full size mockup was molded in clay. Now, a year later, the real thing is on it's way to the Detroit Auto Show. This car wasn't a mockup or a shell. The sculptor, designer and escort for the car is hoping it will take best of show this year. And Kitty Hawk delivered it!

This is the 2007 Ford Shelby GR1 concept car. If Ford decides to put it into production, potential buyers can expect to pay around $200,000 for it. The entire exterior of the car is polished aluminum, and it has liquid cooled LED headlights. It was amazing seeing this car up close and talking to the project leader for the studio that built it.

V-10 should be strong enough....

The bottom one is the Chevy PT Cruiser. Notice on both of them that they look hard to see out of. They could have made the window openings a little bigger.

I think that is the same car they profiled in "Rides" The designer was a young guy and this was his first big project. Talk about pressure!

You mean it's made in China and you have to put it together yourself, praying all the parts showed up?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :)

No No NO... My Harbor Freight Trailer was proudly made in the Ukraine!

Seriously, HF switched suppliers a year or two ago. The Ukrainian models have the funky cast coupler. The earlier Chinese sourced ones have a standard stamped coupler that is seen on most US trailers.

Well, I was refering to the color of the paint, but the jokes are cute. I didn't realize the HF changed suppliers. I wouldn't want that cast coupler. Yech!!! Maybe I need to re-review that red-trailer's trailer!!! :?

Bottom silver SUV was designed by the same guy who designed the PT Crusier, GM stole him away from Crysler....Looks like they wanted a PT of their own...will be interesting to see if this goes into production and how well it sells?

Lutz @ GM keeps insisting that it is not a PT whanna-be, but rather a take-off of the Suburban of the late 40's...

Looks like my old PT extended a bit but with a squared off fender instead of teardrop shaped. Nice going GM! Good choice to match a tear.. maybe

It's amazing to me how many versions of the old station wagon they can come up with and still call it "new".

How big is it? We were at Pebble Beach at a Diamler Chrysler tent and we saw a prototype PT. It was much smaller than I had imagined, I thought the PT would be bigger than it is. That kinda of killed my exitcment for the car. I thought it would be at least as big as a normal "Sedan Delivery".

Its based on the new Cobalt and has the 2.2 Ecotech 4cyl so I'm guessing its about the same size as a PT...when are these companies going to figure out they need a V6 at least in these boxes :?

Well a 2.2L would be fine.. if they put in a decent engine like in the Toyotas. My dad has a Camry. It has plenty of pep and is MUCH better on gas than my PT was. I thought the GM was much bigger than the PT... looks like it from photos.
