In other words, when you go to screw the fan in, the screws may just go into air. Know what I mean? Like for mine, the 1 by 2s I used weren't wide enough, so I had to add extra 1 by 2s around it.

Thank God someone told me this before I framed mine, and before I skinned. If you have your fan before you skin, you're cool, because you can test the fit.

Ira or Madjack - I,ll remember what you said about the framing part of it as well.

Thanks

Hey Finn,

All you have to do is frame in your vent with 2x2 studs (measured 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" on that fancy American tape measure you have!)

Make it look like this...

Mike's right, but since you'll probably be using 1 by 2s for your spars anyway, whether you double them up or not, you can just use that same lumber by adding an extra piece.

I have bought equivalent to 1 x 2 spar material but I also have the 2 x 2,s
as well.....so were set ...

All right!!! ;) Nice Drawing Mike

Classic Finn

PS: Is 12" apart enough for the spars from front to back or can I go farther apart?

You can adjust them to whatever you need, mine are closer on the radiused areas than on the flats, about 9-10" compared to about 11-13" on the flatter areas. I pretty much went by how much distance I had in a particular area and spaced them as equally as possible. I also adjusted them for the ceiling seems and cabinets, so come to think of it I don't think I have 2 the same!

It's funny how you forget these things, but I don't think I went anywhere near as close as 12". More like 18", maybe even a little further apart. I DO know that I made them closer than the Cubby plans called for, therefore using more in the plan as well.

But I doubled up my 1 by 2s, so the spars measured 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 after laminating.

You may want to check this Maxxfan out, same as a fantastic fan but has a Rain cover built into it. I took my fantastic fan out before I went to Alaska last summer and installed one of them. Cost is about $250 but it was worth it. I also have awning windows, Great ventalation while raining. It also fits in the standard 14"x14" or 14 1/4" x 14 1/4" opening. I made my opening 14x14

Max Fan p/n 00-051000 white cover
Max Fan p/n 00-052000 smoke cover

If you email them with your roof thickness they will give you the correct garnish. And they have several different styles/modeels low profile, and colored dome options

Heikki, this is the guy I got my fan from, 3sp reversible. low profile with smoked/flat dome...the were really great to work with and they made damn sure I got what I wanted before they shipped...I highly recommend them

Madjack

PS - Now its just PATIENCE to get all the parts here....Patience? okay I have Patience....  I want the parts here NOW....
Its now Official - Im the happy owner of a Brand New 5000RTB Finntastic Fan...

WOW What a Guy - Scott sure is a pleasure to work with.... He knows his
Fan Business... Your so right Madjack...

He sure can help a Greenhorn ....

We had trouble communicating with the email I was sending him email to
aol.com - some would go thru and some would bounce back...

He sent me email 1st and I answered and it went thru swell.. then the next day nothing...But we finally worked it all out via Hotmail... no problem then we spoke over the phone...

So this is what I got::: for the professionals that have already the fans installed and teardrops built....

This is what I will be sending: 1-5000rbt, low profile base, white interior, smoked standard
dome, and a short shafted lift knob. (Aliner) To fit 1 7/8"
thickness. (Garnish will be trimmed to 1 3/8")

So How did we do choice wise? Comments?

My comment is - Great Customer Service to the Detail...Nice Man also...
I,ll recommend to anyone near and far..

Thank You Scott

Classic Finn
