Driving with my Fantastic Fan open?

Postby Gerdo » Sun Aug 13, 2006 9:18 pm

Does anyone drive with their Fantastic Fan vent open? I'm afraid that the wind is going to rip it off. It is mounted so the open side is to the rear of the teardrop. Does the manufacturer have any recomendations?

After posting this topic I checked the mfg's website and they say

"Q. CAN I DRIVE WITH MY VENT OPEN?
A. YES! It is best to have the dome completely open. There is a lifetime warranty on the dome "

Gerdo...I would think that you wouldn't want to do it on a dirt road however...since the pressure in the tear is lower than that going over the top, it may suck in dirt...but I didn't know you could drive with them open...good to know...Doug

That's a suprise to me. Since it is only supported on one side, it is kinda flimsy when opened. That is part of my pre tow checklist:

Vent closed
Doors locked and latched
Hatch latched and locked
Tongue secured to ball
Lights work
Chains OK (sometimes they drag)

Rocky I was suprised to read that as well for the same reason...I always thought that single point mechanism is a little flimsy for such...in my opinion...but what the heck....

You need to add one very important item especially when leaving the campground:

Make sure wife/husband is in the car.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Didn't you say your wife was going to start reading here? :BE

I've seen those on the side of the road. Since they are only $15, I wouldn't be too broken up about loosing one.

What am I missing?

Besides maybe trying to dissipate the smell of pot from the cabin, why drive with the vent open?

Oh--that's gotta be it then. So I totally understand.
Here we go again!

Kinda my thought. I always close mine - no such smells to dissipate.

Well,
In Humboldt County...
I see a lot of trailers going around with vents open, windows cranked out... doors flopping open.
