General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Gotta have "food".

Postby mikeschn » Fri Sep 24, 2004 7:12 pm

As I watch the next hurricane roll in, I recall something that I found just last weekend... It's like meal in a pouch, almost. Just make some rice or noodles, heat this stuff up, and you're eating... I'll definitely have a place for this in my teardrop. How about you?

mike,

do you heat it up in the bag by boiling it, are they dried or can you open the bag and heat it in a pan?

I have a case of MRE's in the house in case of a emergency. Lets say the cheese and crackers don't agree with my stomach!

Hey Woody,
One nice thing about hurricanes... At least you know they are coming.
Out here, it's Earthquakes. No telling when they are going to strike.

Dean,

I can appreciate that, It goes to show that in the scheme of things how puny we are when it comes to the power of Mother Nature. Ihave never been in an earthquake, but let me tell you being trapped in a hurricane last days sometimes which feels like an eternity, But It was my choice to stick it out(seems foolish)To keep with theme of the thread, MRE's been there, done that, bought the T shirt, washed it once, and it shrank and gave it away

That's my thought exactly. Several people I know who grew up in CA are terrified of hurricanes as well as severe thunderstorms. I was in San Jose a few years back when a hurricane hit my folks. I called and they said it was nothing. The news made it sound like it was a cat 5 or something. I'm not to crazy about the thought of earthquakes but seems like nothing to the people out there. To each his own I guess.

No they are not good for back packing. They are not dehydrated.

They are good for teardroppers, because we have stoves and propane. We just need to make some rice, empty the contents of the pouch into a pot and heat it up, and serve over rice.

What I like about these, is they have meat in them... If you are out of power for a while, like FL must have been, and you're not able to get fresh meat, what you gonna eat? Hormel Chili? Then what? Campbell's chunky soups? What else is out there in our regular supermarkets that we can use up on a regular basis? I saw a couple La Choy Chinese meals in a can... anyone know of anything else?

Three weeks.

That's how long Florida Power & Light Co. customers could be without power after Hurricane Jeanne hits the state this weekend, utility officials are warning.

Nope. Once again. Going to ride it out.

Most likely will loose power again. Might not be back on for a few days after tonight. If that be the case you guys slow down the post. Takes too long to read all the backpost when you ain't logged on and read each day.

You might even hit 10,000 by the time I get back.
